I think you still can, but the bigger question is why the hell you'd want to.

I was in the Navy for 6 years, and I'd have to rank the whole experience as a horrible mistake.

Get a job, save up some money, maybe get an education.... but DON'T join the military.

EDIT:

Y'all can give my answer a 'thumbs-down' , but you can't deny I'm right.

Seems like thats almost a requirement for enlisted sailors.
Check with the recruiter though. Standards have changed substantially over the past years. For example, Soldiers can have tattoos showing on the necks, but not there hands.
USMC has just changed there policy a month ago. Navy policy has probably changed too, especially since USN has short sleeve uniform options

In general yes. But be prepared that summers could
become unpleasant with long sleeves. If you don't have
a tattoo yet AND want to join the navy I would first check
for uniform compatibility. The problem is not the tattoo.
It's wether it can be seen with the uniform or not.

Yeah, pretty much the same place that most guys would take an extra three inches. But then again, I am pretty short. I might get more action if I added three inches to my overall height. Unless I take the three inches downstairs, but then walk around without pants or underwear. Of course if I do that, I'll probably end up in prison, and I really don't want that kind of action. So, I'll just be three inches taller, please.

I went through basic (army) with a girl that had a large tattoo that ran from her hip down her thigh and ended above her knees....

I think for the most part, if tattoos can be covered while in uniform (specially formal) it'll be okay... but things are always changing and hey, it might not matter anymore... as long as it's not offensive.

No, if it is past your uniform ( your elbow) you are not allowed to join. It has to be completly covered and if I am not mistaken the navy has some short sleeved uniforms.

Hey Sean,
I far as I remember from my daughter all tattoos must be covered when in uniform and short sleeves are standard .
TALK TO YOUR RECRUITER BEFORE you get that ink.

Sure you can but the rules are different then from the time I was in Ask your recruiter for the whole story.
