Certain sects (especially within Christianity) believe that any teachings other than their own are evil.

Wicca teaches people to take responsibility for their own actions instead of saying, "But I believe in Jesus, therefore I'm forgiven and it doesn't matter that I did bad things." In Wicca, anything you do WILL come back to you in some form or another. Think about that. Isn't it a more mature, responsible way to look at your actions than, "Jesus saved me"?

Also, Wicca doesn't teach people that "sex is bad", "earthly/material things are bad", "fun is bad", or "[fill in the blank] is bad." I think some religions exist simply for the sheer joy of stamping out other people's joy.

Most criminals consider themselves justified and victimized. That doesn't mean what they do is right.

I don't agree about Wicca being "bad", but I understand perfectly why Christians, Jews, and Islamic people might consider it so, for the very reasons you mention.

It is not unfair. Fairness is a child's concept of "justice". There is plenty of reason for them to warn people away from the "occult", witchcraft, etc. It is specifically prohibited in the Old Testament they all share. From their perspective, you are following evil, have given yourself over to a religious belief that is evil, and a tool of the devil.

Again, I disagree, but I am not so foolish that I don't understand why they think that way, or to assume they are foolish for doing so.

I've studied the occult, wicca, as well as numerous religions and philosophies. I was into such things before the phrase "New Age" was invented. If you plan to really understand your beliefs, but complain about the beliefs of others, you really should understand those beliefs, or at least not wonder why they have free speech, or express THEIR beliefs, just like you do.

Enjoy the search, regardless. Keep speaking up about the God and Goddess, Wicca, etc. so that people will understand more, rather than insist that others not express their beliefs.

Free speech is precious. Use it.

I don't think wicca is "bad". I think it is a copout on religion. It springs up out of no-where, and has less basis than any religion if know of. I'm an atheist, so, granted, I believe every other religion is incorrect. Atheism is a faith, and inherent in any faith, is the belief that yours is wrong:P Anyway, asside from that, I think wicca is more a medium for people to feel good about themselves, than it is a real religion. It's like a fad, more than a belief system. Do you believe it because it's true, or because you like the idea of it? There's a big difference.

Well, you answered your own question dear. It is because they think "it is of the devil". The Bible does say, "Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live". And that of course led to an awful persecution in the Middle Ages and even in early America, as I am sure you are aware. But these are fairly enlightened times now, compared to then, so you are safe to practice your religion till further notice, unless the "burning times" come back again. I hope they don't. I hate persecution of any kind. So many people want to persecute the Gays, or the Blacks, or the Jews, or the Whites, or Christians, or Atheists. Someone always has an ax to grind, that they would love to bury in someone else's skull. People! If there is a God, He/She must sure be disappointed in His/Her children!

Well it started during the witch hunts really (not saying that Wicca is over 50 yrs old), but that's when general discrimination against any group labeled 'witch' began. I would have thought that people had the common sense to be able to know the difference between witch and Satan, however I guess people are just stupider than I thought. The best thing you can do is just try to correct anyone who believes that (and not make a fool of yourself by being a fluffy "witches harm none!" screamer).

In their worldview, they have every reason to spread that "propaganda." Xians, especially the fundamentalist ones, DO think you're evil.

And y'know what? If scientists can't convince them of evolution, scholars and historians can't convince them of the inaccuracies of their own texts, and experience can't teach them the failures of their own faith . . . how, by all that is sacred, do you expect to teach them *tolerance* of other beliefs?

There's a REASON why traditional Gardnerians were under oath not to speak of their beliefs and practices, or publically admit to being witches . . . because one should never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

Live your life for you, not them. There's actually precious little satisfaction to be found in beating your head against walls, except for how good it feels when you stop.

This is lie perpetuated by the Christian churches. They are convinced that Witchcraft and Paganism come from their Devil. But what they don't understand is that the Devil doesn't exist. It's a scare tactic.

I would say that "most people" don't think anything about Wicca, as they don't know enough about it to think about it.

That being said, I've met "Wiccan" Teens who were practicing a very fake Wicca, indeed.

Because to Christian faith, anything not Christian is EVIL. It doesn't matter if there is a basis for this xenophobia or not, they have already decided that anything different from them is Satanic. That includes Wicca, Shinto, Islam, Shamanism, Buddhism, and so on.

Oh, and did I mention that Wicca is a goddess worshiping religion? There's another reason.
