I got my puupies third round of his Parvo vaccine and his Rabies shot today. I was wondering how long will it take before it will go into effect and when is it safe to take him to the dog park?

There has been a lot of concern of my puppies safety at the dog park, and it is greatly apprieciated. I usually go to the park during the week so the amount of dogs there is minimal. Also, the park is divided in three different sections. One for small dogs, medium, and large dogs. I also own his mother so he would not be all by himself. I do all I can to protect my animals. Also I unfortunately live in a condo with a small yard. I just want them to get some free space to roam and have fun.
Now to acknowledge the other comment; he is a Jack Russel Terrier, and is super cute. Here is a link to see his picture.

Thank you all once again and I will take all that you have to say into consideration.

I would wait at least 2 to 3 weeks before taking your pup to a dog park. Its a hot bed for all kinds of virus and infection from other dogs.

I always cautioned all my clients to not take their pups into a crowed area where a lot of dogs can mingle.
I can only tell you the same thing. A few more weeks won't be to hard to wait to make sure your baby is fully protected.

If it was me, I would wait a week or two at least before taking the puppies to the park.. And make sure it's a park that insists that everyone vaccinate their dogs. They are young, you don't want to take any chances.. The diseases they can pick up are far worse than just picking up worms or something.

You should be careful taking puppies to a dog park tho. People generally don't know their dogs well and tend to think that there won't be a problem, or just plain aren't on the ball enough to watch for the signs.. You are responsible to make sure your own dogs are protected, no one else there is going to keep their dog from jumping on yours.. You don't want that happening to such young puppies, it will stick with them for life and make them either dog aggressive or fearful.. I don't like dogparks myself.. Bad scene.

There is a chance that he is having a reaction to the vaccine, although with it just being at night I'm not sure. It could really be anything. Defiantly go back to the Vet. If it is a reaction they can give him a steroid shot and possibly tell you the correct dosage of chewable Benedrill. Regardless they'll want to make sure your dog isn't getting dehydrated and take care of that if he is.

You already received several vaccination answers, but I have another comment. Please be very careful with your puppy at a dog park. Many owners are not responsible and the dogs can gang up on your dog. Even one overly pushy/bully dog can traumatize your pup.

Your best bet is to meet some people with age appropriate puppies and get together for play groups.

Shots of any kind usually take abotu 2 weeks to go into affect.
In most cases if the pup has had at least two sets of shots they should be ok.
Good Luck.

I always thought puppies got 4 rounds of vaccines. Has this changed?

I think it is safe to go now as far as the vaccines are concerned.
