I just got a four month old chihuahua and I have him in a fenced off play pen while I'm gone. His wee wee pad is in with him, along with water and toys. He goes on the wee pad, but also goes on my floor when I have him run around the living room. I want him to be trained to go in the home instead of outside. I'm probably doing everything wrong regarding potty training. I feel bad keeping him in a crate for 8 hours a day and all night, that is why I bought the metal play pen. I was wondering if anyone ever used the Wizdog product which is an indoor potty training apparatus. It looks to be less messy than a wee wee pad. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

You are actually training her to go where ever she wants. by putting the pad in with her she is not rewarded or "punished": I would get a crate a dog playpen is way to big for training a chi. She should get full control at 6=8 months at that time she can run loose at night and even possibly during the day. You can use wee wee pads or you can actually get a LARGE cat litter box and paper train them to the litter box. This is done bu deciding where you want her to have the litter box. when you take her out of the crate take her directly to the box and give a comand ( this is your choice" i use go be good.) when she is good reward her. If she doesnt' do it then but starts to go onthe floor a firm No go be good and walk her to the box.
Some chis seem to be smarteer than others so be patient it will come.
A chi should be between 7 pounds and should be able to use a box if not do the same thing with a pad or papers.
Good Luck

Instead of putting the dog in a play pen, get a crate. Then learn how to crate train your dog. Google "crate training".

This is the easiest way to potty train a dog. There will still be the occasional accident, but it will be the soothest transition.

And be sure to limit the amount of water you give a puppy after 7pm, which will help with the need to potty while you are sleeping.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://bitly.im/aL4Fh

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

As with any child, you have to be consistant in training. I use Piddle Pads fron Drs. Foster and Smith.com........I put it in the bathroom on the lenoleum and remind my two Yorkie-Poos where it is..."you gotto go?? go in the pottyroom" and show them until they get the idea. Then reward them when they do good. A little treat re-enforces the good behavior. You may get to the point where you may not have to crate the dog at night. Good luck!!

Well l wood not recommend it. When the dog gets older it will really smell not to mention that you will not be able to take the dog anywhere He will pee everywhere he goes i have a friend that did that and now she regrets doing it because she can't
take the dog to visit friends because the dog will pee or poo in there home. Not cool! Think about it before you do it.
Good luck

Waste of time and confusing to the dog. Skip training the dog to pee in the house and just train him ONCE to go outside where you want him to. Pee pads are a HUGE mistake in training. The inventor was smart but the people who use them... not so much.

do not do it. dogs are meant to go outside. pee pads are the worst mistakes dog owners can make, it slows the training way down. also teaching the dog to stay inside will make it less likely you will take him for walks or exercise him. it is not healthy for dogs to stay inside.

I find outside training far easier and less confusing. Just my opinion.
