No Anna you are wrong. You are correct that in 2008 you will need a passport for Canada, Mexico & the Carribean; however Puerto Rico is not included b/c it is still the US. You do Not need it & you won't need it in 2008.

If you look at this site & read below you will see it states
"The passport requirement does NOT apply to U.S. citizens traveling to or returning directly from a U.S. territory. U.S. citizens returning directly from a U.S. territory are not considered to have left the United States and do not need to present a passport. U.S. territories include the following: Guam, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Swains Island, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands."

there is not any doubt that Puerto Rico is a rustic, a rustic that's not completely sovereign yet, yet nevertheless a rustic. Puerto Ricans are as latin human beings as Cubans or Venezuelans with the aid of fact their historic previous is an identical, all of them come from an identical root. The imposition of a statutory US citizenship in 1917 in Puerto Rico for the time of the U. S. protection rigidity colonial regime (regime that lasted 50 years) did not make Puerto Ricans into "human beings" an identical way the german invasion of france did not became french human beings into german, Puerto Ricans have continuously defended their own nationality and the governing party and it is governor Anibal Acevedo Vila is finding forward to have a sovereign Puerto Rico sooner or later.

Nena and Anna bring up an interesting point......while the Law is no passport required, as PR and the US Virgin Islands are as American as Buffalo or Fargo, SOME AIRLINES are asking for passports on the lame excuse that "the plane might have to divert to a foreign country"..so:

CHECK YOUR AIRLINE !!!!

( It is a lame policy; you aren't asked to carry a passport on a flight from Boston to Chicago just because the plane might have to divert to Toronto, but there it is......

Yes as of Jan 2008 per American Airlines. For travel to anywhere in the Carribean. Mexico, and Canada. You will need your passport to get to and from. Also make sure you get it plenty in advance as they take some time to get to you. (Very important)
