First off, use _diet_ coke.

Also, restrict the opening (like a nozzle on a hose makes the water go farther). The nozzle has to be in place when the mentos are dropped into the coke, and there's nowhere enough time to screw one on. So here's what you do:

Get a strong magnet and a steel nut or similar object that will fit into the neck of the coke bottle. The magnet goes on the outside of the bottle neck and the steel thing goes on the inside. Now the neck of the bottle is blocked by the steel piece, which is held in place by the magnet.

Stack mentos on top of the steel piece. The magnet must be strong enough to hold the weight of the steel plus the mentos until you are ready to release.

Attach the nozzle (securely!) to the top of the bottle.

When you are ready for the demo, simply pull the magnet away from the neck of the bottle. The steel and the mentos will drop into the coke. And we all know what happens after that.

Do this outside, OK?

Make a small diameter nozzel by drilling a hole in the cap. You can suspend the mentos on a string through the drilled hole and release them when you are ready. You can also drill the mentos and thread the string through them as a means of attaching to the string.

As the mentos are going to be stacked you will have to pour off some of the coke so that they are suspended above the coke.

Make sure the coke is room temperature, or a little warmer, and you can try drilling a hole, smaller in diameter than the bottle's neck into the cap , small enough for the mentos though...
The (smaller than the neck,) hole will of course restrict the pressure slightly more and it should thrust out to a higher degree. I'm no rocket scientist but it just might work.
Good luck on your project.

u can shake the coke and quickly drop like 3 mentos into in.

u can put the mentos on a string so its not as easy to miss the hole

Make sure its DIET coke.. regular coke doesn't work as well maybe because of the extra sugar.. we made a paper cylinder and put the entire box of Mentoes in and we covered it for a spilit second with cardboard and then let it go it went WAY high!! When we used other diet soda..or only part of the box it wasn't as dramatic about half the height.
Have fun!! and make sure you experiment outside.. less mess to clean up :-)

Have a look at the insane amount of videos on Youtube that cover diet coke/coke and mentos reactions.

answers to some of your later questions:

1. If you don't have a drill, push a needle through it to string them up on a thread

2. You can use a nail and hammer to punch a small hole through the cap

3. Has anyone tried crushing the mentos first to get the most surface area to react with?

Use diet coke
Try to get as many mentos in as fast as possible
The beaker trick works well..
The more mentos you have, the higher the soda

Last week a little boy died in Brazil after eating MENTOS and drinking Coca-Cola / PEPSI together. One year before the same accident happened with another boy in Brazil . Please check the experiment that has been done by mixing Coka-Cola (or Coka-Cola Light) with MENTOS .

So be careful with your self eating MENTOS (POLO's) and drinking COCA-COLA or PEPSI together.

u just put lots of mentos to a huge bottle of coca cola...then watch it out...but u need a huge place bcoz it gets spilt out like a fountain
