The bible has already been edited countless times. Some people are hung up on the actual words as if all the yea verily's had some magic power in and of themselves. It is not the words but The Word that counts. the are no stories in the bible that serve no purpose. Perhaps you should look and read for yourself. If you do you will be surprised to find out how much was changed or left out all together from the versions of the stories that you might already know. For instance Samson was not a hero, he was never meant to be, he was a warning to others of what happens when you abuse power and the gifts of God. Go read the bible for yourself before you start deciding what is of no use. Remembe those who do not remember or acknowledg and learn from history are doomed to repeat it. If we took the stories of the bible, the real stories of the bible, more to heart, we and this world would be far better off than we and it are now.

It is not only appalling to Christians, it is appalling to this secularist--at least the kind of editing you are proposing. It sounds a little like the book 1984.
I do not know of any story in the Bible that can, simply as a story, cause harm to today's society.
I do not advocate using the Bible as a standard of behavior, but I value the strange stories in it as a window into a world that has long past. It is precisely the stories you would edit out that make the Bible such a fascinating read.

First, when you say "Many of the stories serve absolutely no purpose and can only possibly serve to cause harm in today's society..." serve "no purpose" for whom?
Second, who, exactly, would you propose do the editing?
FWIW, Luther was of the opinion that the book of James needed to be expunged.

We object to the sheer arrogance of people like us saying we know what is good and what is best, and we will tell God what we want him to say and not to say.
If we really thought that we were smarter than God, or that the Bible was just something that we humans came up with and could change at our whim there would be no point in being Christians in the first place.

because every story in the bible has a purpose in the message of Christ, it serves in the prophecy of Jesus's first coming and his lessons and his second coming, they all flow together and have a special meaning and purpose....the bible is in no way similar to the movies we edit in this century... plus God specifically stated in Revelation 22:18-19 " I warn everyone who hears he words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the Holy City, which are described in this book."

Well, from a secular point of view, would you want to "edit" classic books such as Diary of Anne Frank? That's called book banning, and it's usually frowned upon.

a million. you do not look to comprehend very plenty relating to the bible. 2. Christians do not persist with the bible, they persist with Jesus. 3. The WBC is subverting this area: Love your God with all your heart. . .Love your neighbor as your self, in this each and all of the standards of the regulation are fulfilled. And this area: by potential of this all adult men will comprehend which you're my disciples; by potential of your love. i could desire to bypass on. . . ---------- Edit: a million. ok, properly i'm not likely to argue approximately who knows the bible greater useful. basically propose that in case you understood the bible, it may be meditated in the way talk approximately it. 2. "i don't persist with the written regulation, I persist with" what? it somewhat is an incomplete theory. . . The bible is the muse for our info in an identical way that historic archives are the muse for info of historic events. One desire not stay their life by potential of those historic archives as a manner to verify the fact of the events that they checklist. 3. The suggestion is to not reject something. "in this each and all of the standards of the regulation are fulfilled." it is not a rejecting of the regulation, yet an confirmation of it. it is likewise a clarification of the regulation: e.g. in case you study a element of the regulation, and it somewhat is telling you to do something unloving, then you definately're examining it incorrect. Which somewhat brings us returned your saying which you comprehend the bible all too properly. ninety 9% of the bible isn't regulation. basically approximately 2 books of the bible handle the regulation. it somewhat is two out of sixty six books (you artwork out the proportion) So how could desire to you even think of that Jesus' assertion relating to the regulation could desire to reject ninety 9% of the bible? i'm very curious as to what it somewhat is you think of you comprehend relating to the bible. . .

No one is stopping you from editing your bible. Rewrite it if you wish. What you are suggesting though is changing the historical heritage of humanity to suit your fancies. What's next, Napoleon was Chinese?

If they realized how often the Bible had been edited in the past, then they might not have such trouble.
