I had one not too long ago, actually. For me, the dream was more a reminder of how much that person has become a part of my life, whether or not we necessarily get back together.
Sometimes, we dream of old connections not because we want to get back with them, but because we want to make sure that our experiences with them haven't gone away. It's kinda like suddenly getting the urge to put on your HS class ring. Even if you haven't worn it in ages, just putting it on brings back all the memories that are entwined with it. So, you put it on, feel a sense of nostalgia (usually much nicer than the experience actually was, since your mind can now selectively choose the 'good' parts version) and, confident that that part of your life is still with you, it can go back in the drawer til the next time.
The sense of loss can mask different kinds of loss: loss of a good relationship, loss of who we used to be, loss of our youth, a part of our life now lost to the past.
Of course, sometimes the dream comes in to make us want to reconnect with that person, maybe even to find some closure or understanding now that we couldn't have at the time. There can be problems revisiting the past, but that is a decision best left to each person to decide.

Well I have zombie nightmares from time to time and they are always really freaky and awful. I had a bizarre dream where I went to visit my ex-gf with my current gf (and this would NEVER happen) and my current gf ran off with some goth people and I kept trying to talk to my ex but she was completely besotted with a new girl and I wanted to smack the girl. LOL very weird.

yes and ususally it means that u still have affection for this person, or that you look at then for a certian triat or quailty. if u also dream about ur last time u were with them it means that u dont feel colure between u and that it needs to be solved

YES! happens all the time. And it makes me feel bad about myself, and I want to call and tell them, but I can't. You can't help that person being always in the back of your mind.
