I read this on a website-

"Breaking Up, Its like learning to ride a bike. You fall several times before you succeed. You'll have to date - and break up with - several people before you find the right person."
--------------------------------------------------

Do you you people really agree with this? I think it's crazy. I actually laughed when I read it. It's no wonder why soo many people are getting divorces.

I mean they are soo use to breaking up that they break up even when they were married. Does anybody agree?

Absolutely. In fact, I was just answering another question that regarded relationships, as well. And many of the people's answers made me sad.
I am happily married now (and still very young), and have unfortunately had many relationships in life, some serious and some just high school "nothings". But I do wish that I had been more patient in waiting for the person God had for my life. That way, I would not have had so many heartaches, nor would I have CAUSED so many heartaches in the long-run.
I wish everyone thought like we do. I agree that a change in mind-set might very well be the "answer" to divorce.

Well, I don't agree personally. The reason why people get divorces is because the relationship was so good before marriage that everything seemed perfect, but when a problem came about, they refused to communicate to eachother and talk about it. Most divorces happen because of lack of communication. However, some people only have one girlfriend throughout life and get married and are happy, its how well they are compatible with eachother and how well they communicate with eachother. When a problem comes about, talk about it together and come up with a resolution togther that you both can agree on. Me and my fiance do this and we are great, getting married next week actually. But yes, breaking up is like a bike, you will learn more as you go out with more people, you eventually find the one and are fully happy, but it usually requires work, breaking up and going back out with different guys. Hope this helps.

Wee Man.

Well I think I can see the point of what they are saying. Just because you date someone for 3 weeks, doesn't mean you HAVE to marry them. You may end up breaking up with him. It is a valuable lesson to learn about yourself and see that not all men are like those in your family. Then you may get another boyfriend for 2 months. He may be totally wrong for you, but you don't know that before you really get to know him. It would be unwise in the long run to stay with him. But you learn lessons that make you wiser in making better man decisions. So yeah, I do agree. I do not agree with falling deeply in love and wasting 3 years dating someone, just to break up. I have done that twice and seen many other people do that. That is TOO MUCH 'bike riding'. You have to draw the line somewhere

A broken heart is just as unnatural and unnecessary as a broken leg.

Both can be usually be avoided by being careful.

Now, if by "dating" you mean, "going out with people casually with the intention of finding out if they're marriage material," then yes, you should date around.

But before you do, you really need to understand who you are and what you need from a spouse, so that you can have an objective standard for judging if someone is suitable for you.

Hold on!

Dating someone does not involve "breaking up".

Dating is done in a casual atmosphere and does not involve any serious commitment. Ther is nothing to "break up".

People who are dating are just there to get to know each other better and see if they mutually want to pursue a more serious relationship where they might actually have to risk "breaking up".

I don't think people who are just casually dating are "breaking up" if they choose to not see each other again or just remain friends.

I agree with you. I think it might take time to find the right person but Im not sure hoe to go about it. I had a friend that didnt date at all until he found the right person. Then he married her 6 months later and they have be together since.

I do not believe this quote is in direct relation to marriage. I believe it was aimed at the single population intending to tell young people that they do not have to stay in a bad relationship just to be in a relationship. They need to explore who they are and grow as people so that they are stable individuals when they do get married which would in turn lower the divorce rate.

well I believe that you do go through some boyfriends or girlfriends, but when it comes to marriage you have to commit, I do however agree with you about marriages and divorces, people are use to breaking up when they realize its not as smooth all of the time as they think it is, they dont think before they go and "jump the broom" they just think on the (idea) of getting married...if you think about the vows of a marriage to god, yourselves and eachother even if you do get divorced you are STILL married

Sure. How can you know what you want without sampling what's out there a little? I don't mean sleeping around, just dating. Obviously that ends when you get married. But if you don't date around you might end up regretting that after you marry the first guy who comes along.

No. I dated and broke up with several guys when in my teenage years. Then I found Mr. Right. We've been married 34 years and counting and are still very much in love.
