Nope. It's much funnier to criticize it when I HAVE read it. Which I have. Oh, and it's a pack of lies.
I was raised as a Messianic Jew. I've read that book, trust me. I've spent years studying it.

I personally don't know any atheists who haven't read the Bible. Almost all atheists have read the Bible. Believe me, you don't want to get into an argument with an atheist about what's in the Bible, because they will usually win the argument. Even many Christians express astonishment at how literate atheists are in regards to the Bible.
I've read it. More than once.

It's even more amusing AFTER reading it, because the fallacies within it are plain to see and you still fall for it!
A few examples:
Exodus 35:2, where it states CLEARLY that anyone working on the sabbath is to be PUT TO DEATH! Odd how so many of you shop at Wal-Mart on Sunday without going on a killing spree.
Leviticus 20:13- ah, the Christian JUSTIFICATION TO HATE gays! Oddly enough, it says nothing about woman lying with woman, so lesbians are all right with God, true?
Deuteronomy 22:5- women are not to wear men's clothing, because it is "an abomination unto the Lord." So any woman you see in church wearing pants is an abomination. Be sure to point that out to them.
Exodus 12:29, where God's premeditated mass murder of thousands of innocent Egyptian children shows how much He loves you!
Why criticize it? Because Christians quote from it endlessly to justify their actions and thoughts, claiming that it is the LITERAL word of God in one breath, and then denouncing half of it (the Old Testament) in the next!
Look, it either IS or IS NOT the writings of an almighty entity, so choose a side! If you claim it is, then it is up to you to explain all the fallacies within it, and if you claim it is not literal then the basis for your entire faith becomes suspect.
But Christians are fine with that, because to go beyond the illogic requires deep introspection, and most are not equipped to deal with true individuality and instead choose to swallow whatever makes them feel better about themselves at the end of the day.

Have I said anything inaccurate? Anything at all? Probably because I DID read it, you goof. That played a tremendous role in my becoming an Atheist in the first place. MOST Atheists came from religious backgrounds. We're questioners. That means we hunger for knowledge. Most of the time, that means we've got to do something called research. To be honest with you, I've seen far more biblical fallacies coming from the religious side of the fence than I have from other Atheist or Agnostic posters.

I'm reading it now. Trying to keep an open mind, but I have to admit it's tough. Having been raised on a steady diet of science and atheism, I seem initially to criticize each new verse. I try to reflect on what I've read, and if I don't "get it" I ask...I think it's fair to say I understand the basic principles of Christianity, but I couldn't say I find much of it convincing, nor do I understand how some of the existing denominations came to practice what they do, given what I've read in the Bible.
Just my initial assessment.

Do you think it's funny that the majority of atheists on this site have read the Bible more thoroughly than most of the Christians?
"Know your enemy" is a phrase that comes to mind.

I was convinced of Atheism after 4 years of Catholic school.
I became a vehement activist atheist, after 10 years of Catholic School.
In college I studied the Quran, Talmud, Old and New Testaments, Sumerian and Egyptian Mythological text fragments.
The more knowledge of these texts that I gain the more entrenched in Atheism I become.

Actually you will find a good number of atheists have read it; even more than once. I do find a number of those who use it as a holy book don't as I know a good many that haven't in my own family.
I've read it twice cover to cover and I am an agnostic and I criticize it plenty as it was written by humans with human bias intact.
