NO.. Dogs have the coat they do for a reason.. It protects them from the elements. When you shave a coat that isn't meant to be shaved, you risk them having skin problems, unable to protect themselves from the weather.. Keep her cool, lots of fresh clean water and always a place to get out of the sun..

That depends on you . Are you taking the time EVERY DAY to thouroughly brush you sheltie?? They havee 3 layers of hair and need to be bruched at least 1 hour every day. if your sheltie is continuosly getting matted it's not good for their skin.
I am a professional groomer and I have done several.
They are prone to sunburns so if you have it done ask teh groomer to do it in a #7 blade unless the sheltie is to matted.
It also does seem teo make them feel much coooler during the summer months. During the winter I would suggest an $ 5 blade.
Bye the way shelties are my favorite

I don't know of any sheltie owner that has done and I've been around shelties and collies my entire life. Trim them up a lot more than normal yes but I've never seen one shaved. You could do it and it wouldn't matter and would probably help it stay cool in the summer but if you're doing any shows of any kind I don't know that I'd recommend it. Its really up to you. Personally I'd just brush her twice a week to keep matting and plant matter to a minimum and maybe trim up around the ears and legs.

No! Double-coated dogs like shelties often don't grow their coats back properly after being shaved. The hair may come back thin or harsh. Plus, the insulating undercoat on double-coated breeds serves double duty...not only does it keep the dog warm in the winter but it also serves to insulate against heat in the summer.

If the coat is totally matted yes! If your worried about your pet being too hot no. They have coats for a reason, the coat helps protect them from the elements hot or cold they're fine. If the coat is matted you need to keep up on your brushing so you won't have to get your dog shaved.

If you can't keep it combed so it is silky and has no mats, then yes it should be shaved. A matted coat is painful. Also, a clipped coat may be cooler in the summer.
