They don't get colds from baths. They get colds from viruses. It would be best if you took her to the vets for medication. Antibiotics are usually given to prevent secondary infections. You really need to be sure she is eating and drinking well.

Take the kitten to the vet immediately. Colds in cats can turn into upper respiratory infections(brown crap in the eyes and nose etc.) that can, if not treated, lead to the cat having to be put to sleep. Remember that kittens are really no different than human babies. You have to keep everything clean and germ free as much as possible etc. Also when you give a kitten a bath, you must, must, must, keep it warm, warm, warm. The bathroom...warm. The water...warm. The towel...warm etc. You must not let a kitten air dry. Remember, they're babies so they're more susceptible to germs and disease than a grown cat. You can towel the kitten dry or use a blow dryer(LOWEST HEAT AND SPEED POSSIBLE!!!!) to dry the kitten. Do not hold the dryer close to the kitten. Test the air with your hand over the area of the kitten that you are drying. While blow drying, rub the fur with your hand or brush it with a soft brush, that will help dry the hair faster because cat hair tends to mat when wet and you need to separate the hair to get it dry all the way. Keep the kitten wrapped in the towel while you dry her. Afterwards continue to keep the kitten wrapped up for extra warmth and maybe give her some warm milk or warm wet food, test on your wrist or the very bottom of your lower lip. You can even warm some milk and add it to the dry food. Good luck.

Sounds like an upper respiratory infection. Stuff coming out of the nose is never good. Take her to the vet. A round of antibiotics should clear it up. I understand that sometimes baths are a necessity. My kitten had the same thing happen when she was 12 weeks old. I would avoid baths if at all possible for now but if you must give them, keep the kitten warm. Shut the air vent in the bathroom, maybe even turn on a space heater. (I know it's the wrong season for it but hey, if it keeps kitty warm...) Don't let the cat out of the warm room until it is fully dry so it won't get sick again. Don't worry too much but definitely go to the vet.

Since you mentioned folks at the shelter - is your new fur-baby a rescue? If so - thank you soooo much!
If so - it is quite common for shelter kitties to experience minor upper respiratory infections. IF it is minor it will often clear within 3-5 days. A key factor to help gauge the severity is the color and quantity of the mucous (aka snot ;-} ) and whether it is relatively clear or a yellow or dark green.
When I adopted my 2nd kitty and within 2 days she developed a severe sneeze and pea-green gunk was being ejected - I called the vet and he put her on a 10 day course of anti-biotic drops.
Typically a simple bath in warm water will not 'cause' the cold...it could aggravate an Upper respiratory issue if too much water got up her little nose.
My 2 kitties are nearly 12 and 10 years old and quite pampered. Enjoy your fur-baby!

Cats do get colds. They are passed on from cat to cat. If you have just gotten your cat in the past day or so she could have caught it from other cats there. I would call the vet and they should be able to tell you what you can do at home for the kitten or if she needs medical attention and medication.

First, if you give your cat a bath, I do to my 3, you have to make sure you towel dry good first then blowdry. it's alot of work for them to dry themselves and you'll have more loose hair around. After drying, brush her real good! cats also get cold just like we do, it'll pass. don't worry. also their is cats who do drool alot, so I wouldn't worry about that. Something to keep in mind is that when she has a cold her noise will be warm or dry. When she's better it will be wet like it should always be. remember that.So if you're really worried and she doesn't get better after a few days take her to the vet. good luck and congradulations!!

unless you totally submerged her i doubt very much you gave her that bad a cold, a baby wipe next time she has dirty feet there is really no need to bathe a cat they are very clean creatures and they will do a much better job of cleaning themselves up, honest. If she is that bad she really needs to go to the vet has she had her injections i would go back to where she came from and start asking questions if she has dicharge from her eyes and nose the vet needs to see her as she needs to be on medication

When i got my kitten she was 5 weeks old ( she was not been looked after properly) she was a bit snufferly so we took her the vets, he said she'd got the beginnings of cat flu and if we had left her in the situation she was in much longer she whould proberbly not have survived .So please take her to the vets just to be on the safe side .I now have a healthy 11 month old cat.

It could be CatFlu which is an infectious disease in kittens. It is a combination of Herpesvirus and Calicivirus and once contracted it remains for life! It can make kittens very sick, very quickly and if she goes off her food you should see a vet straight away for antibiotics. Otherwise just keep her nose clean with a wet cloth and offer her strong smelly foods(sardines) and she may get over it.

I'm sure the cold is not from the bath you gave her. She may have kennel cough from the shelter. One of my babies had kennel cough when we got him and it took a while but it went away. He used to sneeze so hard he would fall over! Has she been to the vet yet for her first checkup and shots? They should be able to help you.
