he is a 5lb toy poodle. we have tried almost everything including one of those high pitch collars...the collar was too big he felt he was being punished just by wearing it. plus i feel awful putting it on him. but he barks all the time at everything, people that come over, cars outside, the tv, the other dogs. he will bark at me at night if he wants to go to sleep...i have to turn all the lights off or he won't stop!! help!

When you want to show your dog you are displeased with his/her actions, just walk right up to him stand over him and stare him down. You are telling him that what he is doing does not please you. Stand over him until he walks away from the window and do not show him any favor for at least 1/2 an hour. What you need to drill into your dog is you are the leader of your pack.
At the moment he thinks he is. Another thing you should know is that poodles are inherently given to barking it's part of their nature. What you need to is get him to stop. My only other suggestion is to have him debarked, but I think that is a cruel option.

Hehe....sounds just like my mini and toy poodle.

*POP*

That was your bubble.
Gosh I love that phrase!

XD

Trust me, I tried absoulutley everything with my 5pound girl toy, and my 10 pound boy mini.
Doesnt work.
The only thing, is a shock collar, which I don't agree with at all, because if something where to happen, the dog couldn't bark to warn you, and it shocks at inappropriate times. I heard of someone actually spending $4,000 on a surgury to remove the voice box so they can't bark...that's just way too drastic.
only thing you can do, is when they bark, hold their snout and say "No! you don't do that"
as I do....
So far, they stop while i'm holding their snout, then its another headache.

I've trained my dogs to sit, stay, lay down, High five (Gimmy paw), Twirl, walk, and jump,
but not barking is just one that cannot be mastered.

Good luck!
Get some earmuffs!
Welcome to the world of owning small poodles!

Try putting a muzzle on him when he barks too much. Use it as a punishment, only for five or ten minutes at a time. It may take awhile, but he'll get the picture. Just be consistent!

Give Your dog attention but not too much, I have an Yorkie terrier and the only time he barks is when he has to go to the bathroom or wants attention.

Do a muzzle. I know it might hurt to do so but it's the right thing to do.
