She will come into season and be able to get pregnant about four months after her puppies are born. The dog is bothering her because it smells the discharge from birth. The smell is similar to a female in season.

A dog can only get pregnant while she is in heat, if she just had puppies there shouldn't be any other dogs near her or her puppies! Puppies can catch infections, and all sorts of things from other dogs. Just because the other dogs show no sign of being ill does not mean that they are not carrying something that their immune systems can fight off. Puppies immune systems are very weak and need to be away from all other dogs expect their mom.

So keep the other dog away from her and put the mom and her babies in a safe spot, your obviously not a breeder and should have your dog spayed so you don't have to worry about **** like this!

She can get pregnant again but only during her "heat cycle" which occurs every 6 to 8 months. The male dog could be humping her only because he's trying to show dominance.

I suggest to either take her to the vet and get them to abort the pregnancy, to save the mother dog and more unwanted pups, and then to have her desexed. If you cannot afford this, take her to your local animal shelter and explain to them the situation she has come from. If you want the mother dog as a pet for yourself, you will probably be able to work out an agreement with the shelter - they are there to find as many animals homes as possible; they do not want to euthanise if they can find a home. Either way, she should not be allowed to have these pups, but if she does, then you need to now be the responsible person. Good on you for rescuing her from a certain death from malnutrition and starvation - what a horrible way to die. Good luck and think about what is best for the dog, not what is best for you.

A female dog will go back in heat 6 months after the birth day of her current litter.
It has nothing to do with her nursing the pups or not.
Once the pups are fully weaned, around 8 weeks of age, you can get her spayed to avoid any unwanted pregnancies.

I've never heard of a dog with pups getting pregnant again, but once she's weaned her pups, it would really be a good idea to get her spayed. That way she'll be with you for much much longer.

Oh, by the way, even though I don't think *dogs* can get pregnant while nursing a litter, I know that *cats* can! We had a cat who was nursing a litter and pregnant with another....

My sisters dog had 11 pups and had the same concern! Her vet said not to worry until the pups were weened she was safe.
neighbors dog nailed her just before the pups were weened [1 month] and now she has 10 more!
sorry for the bad news,

YES!!!!

Get her spayed. Check out friends of animals on the web because you can get a discount on the spaying. The downside is that only certain vets accept the certificates.
But you must get her spayed unless you want to keep having litters of puppies.

yes, get your dog spayed there are so many puppies that are given away that end up in shelter ,beaten, or end up on the street eating out of peoples garbage or eating rats. Believe me it's not a pretty sight
