I've raised 8 Children & have experienced many moments of near insanity... probably a few where I was insane for a second or so... but that doesn't release a person from the liability of providing the best care for a child. However, insanity is a poorly defined term & some of the insane are absolutely divorced from reality & absolutely don't have the slightest idea of what is happening in the real world.
That definition of insanity should release people from some responsibility, but for the protection of society we must keep them locked up.

Legally, the explanation is that you cannot hold someone to the same degree of responsibility if they are somehow mentally incapacitated (i.e. you wouldn't sentence someone who has the mental capacity of a 3 year old to life in prison, because they would not fully understand their crime, or what they were doing). Post partum depression can reach a level of severity where a person can no longer distinguish what is right or wrong and the law treats this condition as it does other mental health conditions.

What's also really sad is that these women did not receive the help they so desperately needed before their condition reached the point it did.

For the record, no one is EVER found innocent in a court of law. The legal term in not guilty. I prefer a verdict of guilty but insane. Some states allow that verdict in certain cases. I have never heard of it actually been given.

They could be found innocent because of the super powerful corrupt liberal lawyers that play the insanity card on cases such as this.

because children in our society are considered disposable and women weak.

Post Partum, or whatever, it is the worst crime I can think of, our babies look to us to give them life, not take it away.
