Mat 28:19
"Go therefore[fn3] and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
Mat 28:20
"teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen.

Sure sounds like a command.

I love these debates. :) Everyone remembers the "go out and spread the word" part, but they always seem to forget the "shake the dust from your sandles" part.

All Christians are supposed to do is mention that they have good news about salvation, and if the listen isn't interested - they should move along. Don't be odious or jam anything sown anyone elses throat. And I mention this for all of you people who - when you see someone asking a question about a myth feel the compulsion to write "God is the only true God". It's home work, not theology - you people really need a course in context...

In Acts 1:8, "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.". Jesus points out that upon accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior (i.e. being "born again" as a Christian), the Holy Spirit comes to reside in your heart. This part is a GIFT from God. You have accepted the Son of God and God in turn has given you His Holy Spirit to direct your life. You are then COMMANDED to go into the world and tell others about Jesus Christ and how God sent Him to the earth to save soles from being lost eternally into Hell (the Lake of Fire). Although I love Jesus, I am not a minister. I am just an everyday mail carrier, but I know Jesus has COMMANDED me to share my faith. He helps me do this by His gift of the Holy Spirit. I hope this helps. If you have more questions, I am willing to try to help. My email is mcmager@yahoo.com.

I think it's both... a wonderful gift that our Father in Heaven has given us, and commanded us to share so that all people will have had the opportunity to accept His Son, Jesus Christ, as their Lord and Savior. And I appreciate your asking about sharing your faith, and not your religion. I sometimes think that our various religious beliefs get in the way of our faith.

We are instructed to share God's message with others.

Mark 16:15
And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

Matthew 24:14
And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

It's a command; Jesus instructed us to teach everybody else, but it's left up to us HOW to do it.

There's not just one right way/method/approach. People need to explore and find how to tell the story that works for them in a natural way.

This does not mean leafletting people in shopping malls...

If by "sharing" you mean brainwashing young minds with your fantastical and divise personal religious convictions, then this "command" or "gift" is nothing more than child abuse, otherwsie it is an abuse of the gift of life, and destroys families and nations..

People should be severely punished for this..!!

It is an instruction...Jesus said to go into all the world and make disciples of all nations. The bible also instructs us to have for every man an answer for the hope that is within us.

It is also, I have found, impossible to keep silent about such joy as the good news, that Jesus came to seek and save that which was lost; us.
