It may not necessarily explode--you just have to make sure you make room in the bottle. Like, drain off a few inches at the top of a 2 liter and then freeze...

It will only explode if it is in a sealed container with no expansion room, such as a soda in its original, unopened can. If you fill a cup halfway and freeze it, it will freeze just like any other liquid, but it will be flat when it melts.

well, it's not so much the carbonation thing as the "water expanding" thing. If you freeze a can, there is water in the soda. Water expands as it freezes, and since there is no room in the can for it to expand, it explodes!

i know for a fact if dr pepper and diet coke freeze they do explode and it is a mess! but mountain dew, takes a long time to freeze and ive never had one explode

The water expands on freezing as it always does. If that breaks the container, it makes a sugary, foaming mess as it defrosts. If not, then it normally recovers fairly well.

it will only explode if you leave it to long. how long is to long , usually we put soda in the freezer , sometimes we forget them overnight and in the morning ,a nice mess to clean

My personal experience. In the freezer compartment the can will swell and explode.
Causing one big mess and plugging up most of the vent holes.
Just don't do it!

sometimes it will burst in the fridge-if not when you open it it will overflow with pressure... never explodes like a bomb-more like when you open the biscuit rolls
