I am going to have family picture taken any ideas in what would look good regarding a color scheme or so forth

Use complimentary colors and stay away from loud patterns.
White and Khaki is fine, or jeans. Or shades of blue, or whatever color you feel you look best in. If you have a favorite outfit that makes you feel good, wear it! If you feel comfortable about how you look, that will show in the final image.

The most basic color scheme would be khaki's with various white shirts. It looks crisp, but not uptight. A background consisting of greenery and/or flowers would be beautiful, and make your family pop in the picture.
