A friend of mine, 13 yo,got a really harsh punishment for bad behavior. She joined bad crowds, did wrong stuff, though she's a good girl For 1 month the girl, except for school time, has to be in bed all the time, including weekends. No TV, computer, etc. Friends just for homework at her bedside. She has to do her homework and study in bed. On week days lunch w/ the family but dinner in bed, on weekends, both in bed. The girl, of course, is allowed to use the bathroom, for the strictly necessary time.
Her mom has an electronic device similar to a camera, a kind of sensor that can register when the girl gets up and comes back to bed. So her mom can control her punishment without having to watch the girl 24/7. With such device she can know how many times the girl left her bed and for how much time, and decide if it was reasonable for bathroom needs or not. I think this punishment is simply cruel and can cause serious psychological and physical damages. In my opinion its even child abuse

That is like child abuse you should tell someone because that is cruel and unusual and is probably against the law. It is kind of retarded. Are her parents on drugs or something?

She's up moving around during school time, so this is not a 24/7 type of punishment. And I just don't buy this special
" sensor" that can monitor when she leaves and returns to her bed. Baloney !!!That's just waaay too far out there. As for serious psychological problems... just imagine what that would have been like if she had continued to hang out with the wrong crowd and continued to do " bad stuff". So, the next time you see her, ask her which she would rather do.... spend 24/7 in a tiny cell with one hour of exercise, or be confined to her bed for a month in her own home.

It's hard to say... The camera thing maybe to much but when I was in middle school we were watching Roots in history class and then had to do a report on it. So I ditched that class for the 3 days we watched the movie (this way I didn't have to do the report) My dad found out and made a deal with my teacher about me turning the report in late! Needless to say I had to read the book instead of watch the movie it took me over a month and until I was done I had to sit at the kitchen table everyday from the time I woke up at 7 till I went to bed at 9- I had 10 minute showers and my bathroom breaks were monitored! This went on for over a month... The way I see it the girl has it lucky, a bed is much more comfortable then a kitchen chair!! I turned out fine... and well never ditched school again!

The parents are being foolish, the kid will end up sleeping waaaaaaay too much and will eventually be up all night and asleep during the daytime in while in classes at school. Why couldn't they just ground her with no tv, no computer or any after school activities. Plus she must be home immediately after school is over for the day. If the parents think she might have become addicted to pot or alcohol that could be the reason for this unusual punishment but it seems they are very paranoid to me.

yes it is cruel especially since people need to walk a lot per day. And considering she is in school most of the day she doesn't do a lot of walking there, when she gets home she should be doing it there.

if people no matter what age they are don't get the right amount of cardiovascular activity, they can become sluggish, overly tired, overwieght, more depressed,

even though people make mistakes they are still there mistakes and a parent cant change the way a child is by controling their every move. what it will do is push your friend further away from her mom, and make he depressed.

Sounds awful; like a recipe to learn how to be helpless, and inactive. The only thing I question is the validity of the story. I don't believe such a "device" exists; is it possible your friend is exaggerating? Maybe not, but maybe so...

i think this is sad and if it is a true story u should report it to someone cuz the girl has to be on lockdown and cant leave her bedside only for specific reasons and that can make the girl want to commit suicide to herself because she doesnt have anything else to do but sit there.
she needs a punishment but not this harsh.

Do you have any idea what prison is like.....yep....it's the same. If the offenses warrant imprisonment in an adult arena then I agree with the parents choice for this child. One month is not that long, many people had no discipline and are in prison for life.

wow thats kinda out there. whatever she did, her parents r obviously pissed and making her pay for it in a serious way to ensure no out of line behavior will come upon them gaian. i woudnt go as far as child abuse. but they are definitey watching her very move. they are making sure she knows what her freedoms and priveleges are so that she wont abuse them again. a month isnt too bad. id say something if it was like 6 months

Cruel and unusual? She can do it under the roof of loving parents or do it in a penitentiary one day if she does not turn things around now.You could never know how much her parents love her.
