I teach a class of pre-k children and I actually had a parent question the fact I taught her child not to smack his food. The child asked her not to do it and she was furious with me. I told her I teach them a lot of different manners and she might hear more if he continued in my care. That particular one is my pet peeve!

I've taught my two children table manners from the day they got out of their high chair. We have been lucky enough to travel and they have learned the proper table manners for European and Asian countries as well, since they are not the same as ours. It is the parents responsiblities to raise their children to be polite adults. When babies burp at the table it can be very funny but when you have teenagers trying to out do each other it can be gross.
My kids are far from being perfect but they are not an embarrassment when dining out or going to friends houses.
What they do when I'm not around though I can't say, they might be little devils but I've never been told so.

It relatively does count. i will circulate out to eating places the place youngsters are working around everywhere, chewing with their mouth open, kicking the returned of cubicles/seats, screaming, even throwing foodstuff! It amazes me that fogeys do no longer discipline their toddlers accurately while those issues take place. As a youthful new child, i replaced into continuously taught to assert please and thank you, chunk with my mouth closed, stay seated at a cafe, eat with my elbows off the table, and so on. i'm no longer a parent, yet when I relatively have youngsters they're going to learn table manners from an early age on.

Yes and I have noticed my kids are now starting to be grossed out at their friends table manners. I heard my 5 yr old tell my 8 yr old's friend to "chew with his mouth closed".
I don't think popping your gum is a racial issue. It is annoying when anyone does it!

My kids sit at the dinner table, and are expected to remain quiet unless they are spoken to. They must use their manners or they do not get served. Otherwise a quiet relaxing dinner turns into food fest.
