Like I said earlier, it's because she fell and was not graceful or poised enough. Stop making it an immigration issue!
Also many Mexicans felt that she was not pretty enough like Miss India or the others.

It was NOT an immigration issue. Stop treating it as such!
Many in the audience were rich, WHITE Mexicans that don't give a rat's behind about the immigration issues.
Yes, some Mexicans are racist, and some might not consider a black woman that pretty. But hey so are asians, indians, and even some blacks. I personally do not think she was pretty, not because she was Black, but because she had too much plastic surgery with her pinched Latoya Jackson nose.

Chee, you're right...it's only a beauty contest, but some people here and even the radio have been treating it like an immigration issue....sheesh how silly!

Yin, if you scroll all the way down on the link you put, you'll read that the audience was angry that she fell and still made it to the top 5. That shows to the world that Miss USA is ALWAYS favored even if she falls on her butt.

Trouble, white Mexicans do exist! Look at the ridiculous soap operas from Mexico. They are usually white-skinned, light-eyed Mexican actors. The acting really sucks though!!!!

Turn your TV to the local news, the reports are that it was planned and they have statements from some of the boo'ers. I hate to keep commenting on this because it seems kind of silly to be this upset over a beauty pagent but for heavens sakes if your not going to let it go then get it right. Turn on your local news or hey since you obviously like Yahoo why not look at their lead story this morning...

Miss USA was booed because the contest was in Mexico, and many Mexicans feel that U.S. immigration policies are unfair and unjust.

I agree with you that most of the attendees were probably upper class Mexicans, who don't care about immigration issues because they have a vacation home in Miami, and they come and go as they please with vacation visas.

I also agree that the booing was "aggravated" by the fact that she was not as pretty as other girls and the fact that the poor soul fell. But the truth is that the booing was done because of political reasons. Even if the attendees did not give a crap about immigration, they probably don't agree with the war, and with many past USA policies in Latin America.

Oh, and someone pretty ignorant wrote that there were no white Mexicans, making it pretty obvious that she has never stepped foot outside of this country. My two best friends are Mexican sisters, blond, fair and one has green eyes and other one blue eyes. My husband is Venezuelan, and has light brown hair, fair skin and green eyes. There are MANY, MANY, MANY white Latin Americans. you should take a trip to Argentina where it is hard to see a brown skinned person.

What about Mexicans booed by some Americans all day long at fast food restaurants or in their works places cause they are sick of illegals Mexicans and think that they shouldn't be here at all.

Americans are just to darn selfish in that way.

I'm "white Mexican" (as you call it) but not rich and as in USA and other countries there's a diversity of ethnics groups and even an indigenous descendant can be rich in Mexico.

Is not that bad our country you shouldn't watch TV news at all. Come to Mexico we don't bite in fact we appreciate the fact of your visit.

The treatment of the Tennessee beauty queen was nothing personal. It had more to do with Mexico's sometimes tense relationship with its powerful northern neighbor.

U.S. athletes have sparked a similar response. In 2005, when the U.S. played Mexico during a World Cup soccer qualifier, the crowd booed the U.S. national anthem and a smattering of fans chanted ``Osama! Osama!'' during the game.

Smith was booed repeatedly during her stay in Mexico, including last week, when she carried a guitar and wore an Elvis-style suit during a parade of national costumes held in downtown Mexico City.

She kept her poise during an interview Monday night with pageant judges, despite the boos and chants of ``Mexico! Mexico!'' that drowned out her answer.

The evening news just had it on and said that it was because of the illegal immigration issue, they were unhappy with the way Americans were handling the illegal immigration issue.

Regardless, it was very poor behavior on their part, more appropriate to a bar than a major international contest.

Such manners do not encourage international entertainment industries to seek an audience in such places.

They'll pay for their behavior, as do we all.

The news said it was because of the illegal problems America is battling right now. They want to come to this country without any problems.

Booing a beauty contestant, fall or no fall, only shows the lack of class in those booing.

I agree that in the scheme of things, it doesn't mean much. We already know they don't like us.

So why do you keep bringing it up?
