I learned Chinese first and Japanese second. The Chinese helped a lot with Japanese. There is a "meta-level" that bringing in Japanese will do for you. You will see languages that are close enough but different enough to see contrast, and then you'll have a better understanding of the nuance of the languages. I would only worry about confusion of memorization if that is a particular problem that you have. Some people can learn multiple languages at the same time without confusion. Others get confused with the meanings of terms within English.

The only thing Japanese will help you is Kanji - which is based on Chinese characters. However, for someone who's just learning Chinese now, it may not be a good idea because it may be additional memorization work you need to do.
On the other hand, Japanese grammar is very different from Chinese so you won't mix the two up too much.
I think you should focus on one language (Chinese in this case) first until you're at the intermediate level before starting Japanese.
On the other hand, if you want to learn Spanish or another European language over the summer, that's okay.

I'm taiwanese and I don't think so.
Japanese through a long time's evolution has become much different from Chinese. Though in 7th Japanese is just like Chinese.

I suppose, although Chinese is considered more complicated than Japanese even if Japanese contains many similar characters. Either way I think you'd have trouble learning how to write Chinese, I know I'm still struggling even though I take Chinese school.

Congratulations! The concepts conveyed in Kanji are very similar between Chinese and Japanese, but not necessarily identical in all cases. I cannot say whether this will help you, or confuse you.
