Right now I have a 3.93 GPA and 172 credits. This term, what is the lowest grades I can get to still achieve a 3.90 or higher gpa? I have 14 credits in progess, three classes. A is worth 4 points in my system.

I need to have at least a 3.90 gpa to graduate suma cume laude or else my family will deck me. But Im afraid i might get an A- in a 4- credit class. One class is 6 credits and the third class is 4 credits, and I think i'm getting a's in those.

You're that smart and you need Y!A to answer your question?

Somehow I doubt your claim of a 3.93 GPA. It makes me think that you are doing a homework problem. Also, it's 'summa [2 m's] cume [without the e] laude'. Now I know it's homework. You can't fool uncle SPLATT.

Now, let's see.

You have 172 credits and a 3.93 GPA. You are taking another 14 credits. That means you will have 186 credits at the end of this term.

3.93 * 172 means that you have 676 points out of a possible 688. That's missing 12 possible points.

To get 3.90 GPA you need 726 out of a possible 744 (4.0 times 186 credits). That's missing 18 possible points.

So, you may miss another 6 possible points [you already missed 12]. That means that you may get a B in a 6 point class.

If they give B- grades (2.5 value) then you may get B- in a 4 point class.

If they give A- grades (3.5 value) you may get an A- in up to 12 credits.
