Civilization started around mesopotamia right? Couldnt the flood have only included some sea in that area, such as the black or mediterranean? This wayt would work better. It would kill less people and animals, require less animals onboard (and yes, no Ice % 9.

By the way, I have no opinion on this topic. Just looking for feedback.

And the Bible doesnt have to be 100% accurate you know. That area would have been all of the civilized world.

That isn't a new interpretation at all. I learned about it in Catholic school.

It there was a flood, it was certainly a localized one.

It is certainly a possibility - there are a number of events in the Bible that are not described in accurate detail but may have a historical core of some sort. But this is nothing new - it has been suggested often, and one recent book connects it with evidence for the sudden flooding of an area that is now covered by the Black Sea.

Not only is there no evidence for a global flood, such a thing is impossible. There are flood stories in most cultures because most early settlements were on the banks of rivers or lakes and all rivers flood. There are flood stories that pre-date Noah and the biggest one was the flooding of the Black Sea about 9000 years BCE when the natural dam at the Bosphorus broke.

Later it mentions that he lived at a time when the earth was divided. There was at some point in the earths history a catastrophic flood where they found sea shells on the top of mountains. Some continents fell while others rose from the sea bottom. He really tore things up. Before the flood it was rolling hills and flat plains. Then we got huge mountains and grand canyon type of terraine..

It sortta makes sense....

Especially if you take into account that the Story of Gilgamesh includes a story about the world flooding and only one man surviving...
And Greek Mythology includes a story about the world flooding and only a couple of people surviving...

but it is also likely, and I belive more widely accepted within the academic community, that the story of Noah was taken by the Cemites from the ancient Epic of Gilgamesh and redone so as to teach morals and values that were more parallel to the Jewish faith.

Genesis 17 "Look! I am about to cover the earth with a flood that will destroy every living thing. Everything on earth will die!

it was the earth...also why would there be a need for less animals on board?

There still would be geological evidence of a flood like that and there isn't.

For example, there was a giant flood in the northwestern US and we can see those features on the landscape now.

I have heard a theory similar to this one, and you could be right. Whoever wrote about it, 'their' world could have been flooded.
Iguess we won't know until the very end.

Here is my allegorical take, if you’re interested in a completely different interpretation.
