Maybe God has something he wants to tell you and you're not listening.

If you believe the Bible, it helps if you actually pray God's word, so you know you are praying in faith, and not just stirring up a lot of worry. For instance, if I have a hard decision to make, I could pray Psalm 32:8 and 10b, but personalize it: "Lord, thank you for instructing me and teaching me in the way I should go; You counsel me, and Your eye is always upon me. I will trust in You, and I will know that Your lovingkindness surrounds me." This will calm your heart and mind, and give you a very sweet sleep. One other thing -- if you feel fear, play songs of faith and strength and sing along, and those spirits of fear will fly away.

Praying is basically talking to yourself in your head. You begin to reflect. Inner dialogue typically keeps people up at night. Try meditating instead of praying before bed.
Here is what I do sometimes. I stretch like I am about to go running. Then i breathe deeply a few times and sit down in a comfortable position. Let your thoughts come out and don't try to bring up new thoughts. Let your mind clear itself. After awhile of concentration you begin to notice things you haven't noticed before, like the rythm of your heart coursing through your whole body. At this time you should be nicely relaxed.

What ever you do do not stop praying! It could be that God is keeping you up to tell you something (he often communicates through your thoughts or dreams), maybe he is keeping you up to urge you to tell him something you need to let out but aren't(remember you can tell God ANYTHING, nothing is insignificant and he listens nonjudgingly and forgivingly). Or it could even be that the Devil is trying to make you feel like prayer is actually bad for you. In any case if you want to get through this keep on praying and God WILL get you out of this but it isn't always immediate but It is always defenite. I am telling you from personal experience no good will com from stopping prayer, the grass is greener on the other side for a very short time. Please hang on to God, I know he loves you and is hanging on to you.I am going to pray for you, Read the following that I prayed for you.
Dear God, please be with "ransyslittlegirl's ". Her heart is greatly troubled and the Devil is trying to take her away from you , please Oh Lord give her the strength to hang on to you. Father I know how much you love her, I know that you know every thing about her even her flaws and still love her greatly. Help her to always feel your love and guidance around her . Father I have faith that you are going to get her through this but help her now when she is troubled by the inability to sleep.Let her faith and love for you be strenghtened through this experience that she may be your light in this world. Let her be able spread your love to everyone .
Thank you Jesus
Amen

Though I don't pray, I sometimes have a hard time sleeping after writing something emotional. I guess it works the same way; after I write, my mind is still filled with ideas and sentences, etc., which makes it hard for me to sleep. That's just my personal experience, though.

Your mind is like a machine, sleep puts your mind into a different mode, a mode where it works slower and simpler creating dreams while it regenerates the body. My guess would be that your prayers are a lot more thought provoking now than they have been in the past, perhaps more worriesome. So, just before sleeping, your reving up your mind with difficult thought making it harder and longer before your mind can slow back down and go into sleep mode.

It's Satan trying to steal our comfort and peace we receive after praying. Remember the book of Job, and how the righteous sons of God came to present themselves to the Lord, and along came Satan also.
There's not a one of us, who when at sometime or another, we start to pray, that Satan is there as well, bring up things of the past, that the Lord has already forgiven us for. Satan has so many tricks up his spiritual sleve.
However, What I believe you need to do, is as Jesus said "Get thee behind me Satan." Start speaking the name of Jesus or even memorizes Revelations 20:1-3.
This is one that works for me. Especially When Satan tries to remind me of my past! I remind him of his future!
And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.
And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,
And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.

Perhaps you are keeping yourself up later to pray, which disrupts your sleep pattern. Try praying at some other time in the day, if that is what you wish to do.

Perhaps your altruism is getting your mind stirred up about things which isn't letting you settle for sleep. The mind has a tendency to like to fire up all kinds of "story lines" and "what if's?" Perhaps you could try to do some breathing exercises or learn ways to calm your mind before you try to sleep. If nothing works, then consult your doctor. Don't go taking over-the-counter meds w/o talking to a doc first. Taking something you don't need can be more harmful than beneficial.

pray when you wake up then. can't sleep? better way to stay awake then is in the morning when most people are still feeling pretty tired anyways. your prayers will be heard no matter what time of day. as long as your praying, theres no law you have to pray before going to bed. god doesnt' have the same schedual as we do. its not like he's going to send you an email asking you to switch back to nights cause he's to busy in the morning.

I am soooooooo glad that you have decided to speak with God, that will help you in so many ways. Are you having bad dreams, or just find yourself waking up for no reason? If it's the dreams, your mind is still getting used to praying, it happens. If your just waking up for no reason, God's trying to tell you something. Prayer some more and listen to what he has to say. God bless you ;)
