Something that is not typical. Everyone else will do the more known songs but the unique will help you stand out.Good Luck! I know you can do it!
Song: Till There Was You
Marian:
There were bells on the hill
But I never heard them ringing,
No, I never heard them at all
Till there was you.
There were birds in the sky
But I never saw them winging
No, I never saw them at all
Till there was you.
And there was music,
And there were wonderful roses,
They tell me,
In sweet fragrant meadows of dawn, and dew.
There was love all around
But I never heard it singing
No, I never heard it at all
Till there was you!

Which role are you auditioning for? If it's Marian like I assume, you need to sing an audition song that shows off a killer soprano. "Goodnight My Someone" from the show is incredibly high for a musical theater soprano.
"Gorgeous" from The Apple Tree goes higher than necessary for The Music Man, but that song is a good start.
Other possibilities:
Not a Day Goes By from Merrily We Roll Along
June is Busting Out All Over from Carousel
Mr Snow from Carousel
Adleweis (sp?) from Sound of Music
Children Will Listen from Into the Woods
Blame it on a Summer Night from Rags (NOT Ragtime)
If you gave me more preferences (role auditioning for, uptempo or downtempo, etc) maybe I could suggest more.

What character are you auditioning for? What's your vocal range? First of all, you never sing a song from the show unless specifically asked to. Usually you look for a song by the same composer that's sung by a character similar to the character you're auditioning for. Unfortunately you wouldn't have much to choose from since Meredith WIlson only did 2 other shows - The Unsinkable Molly Brown and Here's Love. If nothing in those 2 scores are right for your voice, choose something in your vocal range that shows off your voice, and portrays a character similar to the one you'd like to play in Music Man.
Since your avatar is female I'm assuming you are female - Look at the songs for Sarah Brown from Guys & Dolls, Laurey from Oklahoma, and Charity from Sweet Charity for starters.
Good luck!

If it's allowed, sing from the show. If not, try to find a song from a similar show, by the same composer (Meredith Willson, in the case of The Music Man), or something like the character you're auditioning for. For Marian Paroo, think lyric soprano -- Laurie from Oklahoma, Guinevere from Camelot, etc. For Harold Hill, think fast-talking con man -- P.T. Barnum from Barnum, Fagin from Oliver, etc.

Try a song from a musical by the same composer. Meredith Willson also wrote The Unsinkable Molly Brown and A Miracle on 34th Street.
"I Ain't Down yet" from Molly Brown is a good song.

First of all, don't use a song from the show you are auditioning for. It is better for a director to see yo sing something from a different show but maybe with a similar difficulty level. If you are auditioning for Marian, opt for a song that shows your soprano range. Just some suggestions:
Much More..............from The Fantasticks (high difficulty level, great song!)
Far From the Home I love..... from Fiddler on the Roof
I am Sixteen going on Seventeen... from The Sound of Music
If I loved you .............from Carousel
Will he like me....... from She Loves Me (high difficulty level, great song!)
If I were a bell......... from Guys and Dolls

Does it have to be from the Music Man? If so, I would pick "My Someone." If it can be from any musical I would pick "Doin' What Comes Naturally" from Annie Get Your Gun or "I Love Being a Girl" from Flower Drum Song. BREAK A LEG!!

Good question. Is "danny" a MALE or a FEMALE name?
Trouble in River City is my personal favorite.
