it seems to me that they are capitalizing on religion.

No! Heaven forbid!
They are merely diversifying from used-cars. You might not like religion but perhaps there is a keep-fit aid they can sell you. How about a self-improvement tape? I know, you're a discerning gentleman, how about the quickdry (TM) onion peeler? Look, I thought of you when I saw you coming.. A Ten-disc collection of country music!

I don't trust the t.v. evangelicals for ANYTHING.
There are a few good ones...I find Jack VanImpe very interesting, but he's not exactly an "evangelist" per se.
Most of them are into something called the "prosperity doctrine". Which is a bunch of hooey and an embarrassment to the church, because they focus on achieving wealth, which is diametricly opposed to Christ's teachings. Others spend the majority of their "evangelical" message on convincing you to send them money for this or that, you know...love gifts.
These are false, it should be obvious but a lot of good folks fall into it.
Your only biblical obligation is to tithe to your local church, to help run, maintain, fund charities that they support. That's it.
Today there are a lot of money changers in the temple, and it is sad.

You don't have to trust them. Turn off the T.V. or switch the channel.

There are bad apples in every bunch - even TV evangelists. I am a Christian, and personally, wouldn't send them my money. My church does so much for the community and for 3rd world countries and that is where I choose to "tithe" my 10%

On the other hand, it is wonderful that they are on TV for the people who don't and can't get out to go to church and need Christian teaching. Those people who are making good use of their services can donate to keep them on the air if they want to.

You shouldn't trust them! They are capitalizing on religion! Look into where their money goes - if it goes to charity, church, or other causes, then they're just spreading the word. More than likely, it's going in their own pockets, though.

TV evangelists, I try to believe, are doing what they think God wants them to do. I try to believe this because I think that TV evangelists are, on the whole, ridiculous. It is their reward.

You shouldn't. Just trust in God alone.

"In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can mortal man do to me?" -- Psalm 56:4 NIV

Most of them are bad news. But there are a few good ones.

You shouldn't...I am Christian and I don't even trust them. Listening to their message is one thing...sending them money so they can peddle those hippie-self-help teachings, that completely ignore the concept of sin and punishment, is not.
