Scientology has taken a very hostile stance towards psychiatry & psychiatric drugs irrespective of the fact that some people require medication to remain adequately functional during everyday life. They don’t recognize legitimate conditions like autism, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, etc, and the “church” has been known to withhold prescription pharmaceuticals from members (often with harmful & deadly results). To be blunt, Scientology is a cult. It employs semi-legitimate psychotherapy & self-help methods to keep people loyal & convinced of its merit while it simultaneously sucks them dry financially & attempts to keep them far away from ANYONE, even friends & family, who would dissuade them from remaining in such a harmful situation. Hello Ray,

Scientology is a way for able people to improve their ability to help themselves and those around them. It is not about making money. Although as your ability and awareness increases you often do earn more.

As a Scientologist I have found I make money more ethically than I did previously.

Working on staff I earned enough for lunch and bus fares, but I found my capacity to earn money increased elsewhere. This is due to greater ability and higher necessity.

Every Church of Scientology pays it own way through being payed for delivering courses and counseling. We pay for our own teams to go to disaster areas as well. I lead a team in a fire zone all the food, accommodation, supplies and travel money was donated by other Scietologists. We do this as any group has both the right and the obligation to help their fellow man.

Difficult to know from the tone of your question, but I'll covered both bases just in case.
All Scientology churches, missions and secular social betterment organisations in the U.S.A. have been given full Charity Status by the IRS (and you KNOW they did a VERY thorough audit before granting this about 15 years ago). In every other part of the world where there are churches and missions (over 160 countries) Scientology organisations are either registered charity status /non profit.
So to answer your question no one is "making money".

Scientology is an applied religious philosophy. When I say "applied" I mean you actually use it in your life to change or improve existing conditions. It is a very practical religion.
All religions if you learn about them have a basic philosphy, but they also have certain dogma, rituals and observances, and a certain faith or belief is required. There is nothing wrong with this, but Scientology is not that kind of religion. It does not intrude on anyones faiths of beliefs in the area of God , the Supreme Being, or the Infinite. This area is left totally up to the indivdual as pasrt of his life. It does not conflict.
You can have no specific religious beliefs and still benefit from it.
And it is only true for you according to your own observation and experience with it.
It is also not a messianic religion. This means there is no worship of messiahs in Scientology. There are no “beliefs” as such because a truth should be according to ones own observation and experience.

The most basic principle of Scientology is that YOU are your own immortal soul, that this is not a "thing" you HAVE but what YOU actually are.

When you do this the sphere and zone of his positive influence increases and moves outward into his life, his family ,his friends, his groups and mankind which he is part of.

I read the book, the first one. And then there was some form to fill out for a free personality analysis. Like a dummy, I filled it out just out of curiosity. Then I kept getting calls from them and letters offering to do, I forget the term because it was so many years ago, 'clear," whatever they called it, for so many hundreds of dollars with a practitioner in my area, they could clear me or whatever. Mercy, when was it, in the 80"s? Scam.

The cult's core belief - no, I am not kidding here! - in the words of the founder:

"The head of the Galactic Federation (76 planets around larger stars visible from here) (founded 5,000,000 years ago, very space opera) solved overpopulation (250 billion or so per planet, 178 billion on average) by mass implanting. He caused people to be brought to Teegeeack (Earth) and put an H-Bomb on the principal volcanos (Incident II) and then the Pacific area ones were taken in boxes to Hawaii and the Atlantic area ones to Las Palmas and there "packaged".
