Everyone doesn't jump and attack anyone who makes a pit bull comment.
What *does* happen is some people get upset when people make ignorant or uneducated statements. This is true if it's a pit bull, a chihuahua, or virtually any other breed.
The big difference is that "Pit bulls" get such a bad rap for things and these terrible myths get repeated over and over, creating more problems for the breed in general (good and bad dogs). If people who know the truth don't speak up, who will?

The answer to your question is because the people on this forum know that Pit Bulls are getting a bad rap and so many ignorant people want them banned. The people that put them down, know nothing about the breed.
It is all media hype. Who wants to hear a story about a Dasuchund that ran up and bit me on the knee? They would rather hear a story that a Pit Bull jumped and bit someone on the arm. Stories of Great Danes killing their owner will make the last page of a news paper, yet a story of a Pit Bull mauling someone is front page news. It hardly ever happens.
The people here on this forum know of the injustice that is being done to Pit Bulls and are trying to let you all know.
It all boils to the absurd BSL to get rid of specific breeds, which is not right.
I am a Pit Bull owner. She is the best dog I have ever owned. I have had German Sheppard’s that were very protective and I could not trust. I have had Poodles that were very mean and would bite.
Have any of the Pit haters every heard the term "Nanny Dog'? It is the Pit Bull. Do they know what the most popular family dog was in the '20s and '30? It was the Pit Bull. Do they remember the "Our Gang" movies, Little Rascals? Petey was a Pit Bull. Buster Brown shoes, "My dog Tige", yes, another Pit Bull.
STUBBY, Bull Terrier mix, WWI. The most decorated war dog in U.S. history
I guess all of these people that are against Pit Bulls have it a bit wrong. That is why you have so many people here standing up for the greatest breed of dog there is.

In our neighborhood, about 15 yrs ago, most dog owners got pitt bulls. I reckon as a status symbol or something to that effect. Dogs should be given basic training, care and affection; coupled with true or firm discipline, dogs will turn out right, happy and loyal friend. Here in our village, it was like a fashion trend, not nice, not fair to our four-legged friends. After a few yrs, several owners of pitt bulls neglected the poor dogs; they got tired of the clownish, bulky lovable breed. Sad!

Because they are the underdogs. No pun intended.
Insurance companies discriminate against them. some insurance companies will not insure you if you have a Pit bull.
Pit Bulls do have a bad rep, due to people raising them to fight. Neglecting them.
Pits are usually very docile if they are given a good home and shown a lot of love.

Any one who has a Pittbull I'm sure will agree, that we are so protective because Pitts. are wonderful dogs who are also very protective. They are also very loyal and loving. Any dog will attack you if provocked. Granted their are some Pitts. who attack without cause buts thats usually the fault of the owner, either from training them to fight, or just flatout being mean to them. People who don't have Pitts. are the ones who are always putting them down.

Because Pitbulls are great dogs, and most of the people on these forums realize that they are great dogs. And they just don't deserve the bad rep they get.

Denial is a river in Egypt, didn't you know that.
Perfectlly normal, anyone will go "not my dog", doesn't need to be a Pitt or anyother particular breed.

Almost without exception that is true,,, right up until the moment that they take someones leg off.
The argument comes from the fact that they are wonderful dogs, provided that they don't "just snap and bite someone".

because it is such a heated issue. people either really want to champion the breed or they want to destroy it.
