Yes. Laban lived in Aramea, modern-day Iraq, and made his living as a sheep herdsman. His holdings must have been vast, because he required at least 5 children plus servants to handle all of them.
Laban was Jacob's uncle on his mother's side. Jacob went to that portion of the world specifically to marry a nice girl; Isaac and Rebecca weren't impressed with local Hittite women! Jacob ended up marrying BOTH of Jacob's daughters (yes, technically his first cousins), when he only wanted one wife. Laban tricked him into marrying the one girl he DIDN'T want.
Jacob spent 20 years working for Laban: 14 years to "pay for" his wifes, and another 6 years to "earn" flocks and herds to support his own family. In that 20 year period, Jacob and Laban learned to distrust each other. In order to get "home" to his parents, Jacob packed up his wives, kids, flocks, herds, servants, etc. and ran for his life. He was afraid that his father-in-law would take everything back by force.
Laban, after he caught up with Jacob, admitted his attitude towards all of Jacob's family and possessions: he considered it all his! However, he promised he would never hurt his own daughters or grandchildren. The two men swore an oath (made a binding contract) in front of witnesses of non-hostility.
Obviously, another dysfunctional family.
