You should talk to the airline. I don't think you can take over her account so to speak, but you should be able to donate her miles to your American Airlines frequent flyer account.
I have donated miles to other family members and have had them donate them to me when one of us is short on miles for something. If you don't have an American Airlines frequent flyer number, they are free and easy to get online: www.aa.com.

Wow not even letting the body get cold first...yes you can. Hope you don't have any other relatives that would take exception to you sticking your hand in the cookie jar a little early.
