when there's no forgiveness, or repentance left, all someone has in seeking the truth of god is deep shame.

An apostate must not end his own life. That would be sinful on top of the sin of apostasy, and would be in effect the handing over of your soul to the adversary. As long as you're alive, you can repent it.

Let me see if I remember from Catholic school -- is it the Catholic Church who says that apostasy is unforgiveable? If so, that is incorrect. There is only one unforgiveable sin, and that is not it. I'm trying to remember if that's what I was taught years ago somewhere between praying to saints (or calling the dead, as Christ referred to it) and repeating prayers over and over again as the heathen do, as if God didn't hear me the first time. Hail Mary, hail Mary, hail Mary... good grief.

Anyone who is ashamed or wanting to commit suicide because of "apostacy" is NOT a real apostate. A true apostate would no longer care. The same goes for people who think they have committed the "unforgivable sin".

Anyone who feels genuine remorse or fear over something they have done or over something they have not done which they should have, can be forgiven if they just ask the Lord for forgiveness.(and do what can be done to make it "right"). Sometimes someone may need counselling or even deliverance if there's something they can't stop returning to.Other people find great relief in getting water baptized as a believer.

Such a person needs to remember there's a very real devil whose main weapons are oppression, lies and fear. God is a God of many, many chances.

It's not to be used as an excuse for "lukewarmness" but remember that Jesus' disciples all ran away when "the going got tough" and Peter denied the Lord three times.Mercy and forgiveness are at the feet of the Lord.

The Bible says "Because of the Lord's great love, we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new EVERY morning, great is Your faithfulness. I say to myself,"the Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for Him."(Lamentations 3:22-24)NIV"

The Bible does have a lot of very strong Scriptures about "falling away" but most people who think they have fallen away do not meet all of the criteria listed for "no hope". First, most believers I know are not under apostolic supervision, have NOT tasted of "the heavenly gift" or the powers of the coming age. Most have not even learned all of the "elementary teachings of Christ" that are listed in the book of Hebrews.

While a person has breath, there's always hope. God is love.

If a person is an apostate they have left off caring what God has to say of such things. Like Judas they generally take matters into their own hands - whether it be death or a continued sinful life.

It would be a sin to commit suicide, the apostate has the option to repent as God is mercy and will forgive.

It is when you feel despair that you are the closest to God and when he reaches out and touches you. Read the parable of the prodigal son: when he returned his father's arms were wide open. He didn't even listen to his son's explanation, it wasn't necessary:

20So he got up and went to his father.
"But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.

21"The son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.[b]'

22"But the father said to his servants, 'Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. (Luke 15)

The only sin that can't be forgiven is to CONTINUE rejecting God. You have free will and if you do that, he will let you go. If you return, he will throw his arms around you and embrace you.

What a wonderful and loving God!!!

Apostasy is the greatest sin because you just outright left God. I hold the plug to your respirator in my right hand, and you spit in my face. It's as stupid as that.

Not at all. Perhaps the fact that they gave up their religion was due to enlightenment. In that case, their lives actually have MORE meaning now than before.
