My 2 yr. old daughter just all of a sudden one day had diareah and she had for 10 days when I took her to the dr. and then I took stool samples in and they came back saying they found a parasite. She has started her med. but she has had diareah for 3 weeks now. Is she contagious? How could she have gotten it? Has anyone else been through this? Also, we have not left the country and she is not in daycare.

Over 90% of people at one time or another will have a parasite, although most don't know it. It's caused by a person getting the eggs on their hands and putting their hands in their mouth. This is why it's so important to wash hands after going to the bathroom, and before eating. A lot of times if a child has a parasite, the parents will too.
