I have two cats that are both around 1 year. Is it possible to train them to use the toilet rather than a litter box, or are they too old to learn?
If they aren't too old, how should I go about training?

Yes you can, most cats actually learn to do this when they are older. There is is this product called....citkeitty.... it takes about 5 weeks, your cat may be a little upset at first and try to do his business everywhere you can think possible but don't give up the product cost about 30 dollars but there are other brands that are cheaper and think about all the time and money you will save once your cat can use the toilet!!! If you don't want to spend any money first you can slowly keep putting things underneath the litter box until it is at the same height as teh tiolet ( this should take a few weeks). Then get put the litter box on top of the toilet seat, (taped on) ( for about a week or so). Next you would put a bowl with cat litter in the toliet taped on (leave this on for another week or so.) Then remove the bowl and you cat should do his bussiness in the toliet. My friends did it and it was so funny to watch the cat take a piss. I worked at a pet shop and have heard some great feedback with the customers I sold it too. Try it out what is the worst that can happen?

Oh yes, it's possible to train a 1 year old cat to use the toliet. You can purchase a potty training litter box with bio-degradable litter (stuff you can flush) and a book on how to potty train your pet. Petsmart, Petco or any major pet chain retail should have those items, or they may know where you can purchase them.
I commend you for wanting to do so too! Cat's may not be the smartest animals on the planet, but they are still trainable at any age too. Good luck and be patient...it may take a bit for the cat to get used to the change!

I've read somewhere that it's possible to do so, what you need to do is keep moving the litter box closer to the toilet every day, little by little. Once it's right by the toilet, just lift up the cover and leave it opened. Cats are very intelligent, they will figure it out. I think one year old is a good age to train the cats still. Good luck!

Most species of cats cover their leavings....it's what they do. Why would you want to take that from them? I put that in the same category as de-clawing. If you don't want a cat with claws then you don't need a cat! If you don't want to clean a litter box, then DON'T HAVE A CAT!

You can train your 1 year old cats, dont worry about that, take a look at the webpage below and look for the video on toilet training.

The question would be, how many toilets do you have available. The one person I know with the most success at this assigned a bidet to the cats, and I think used a kit to train them to it. I tried it with a couple of mine, but giving them a toilet all their own with a busy family didn't work out, so we after a couple of months I quit trying. (and no, they never really "got it".)

If they take an interest to you when you use the bathroom then yes there is a chance. But cats are creatures of habit they might like to sick to what they were taught.
I would say you could teach them just like they are taught to use their litter box, put some of their own poo and pee in there and let them sniff it out then let them get the idea.

Cats are never too old to learn to go tinkle in the litterbox. I'm not sure about the toilet. I have never had a cat that used the toilet. If you don't like cleaning the litterbox, you could get a self-cleaning litterbox.

Let these poor cats go the natural way-in the litter box. You probably just don't want to change the litterbox.

Okay one thing, I don't think cats should be potty-trained. They are not to old. I'm just saying I wouldn't because what if they fell in that water in the potty they may try to attack you or something.
