I find it incredible that no one above (especially the ones who claim to be airline / military pilots) has pointed out that you will get looked at like an idiot if you refer to one as a joystick. They are actually called control sticks. I made that mistake the first time I was on an airfield, and was quickly corrected.

However, pilots really do enjoy flying, or they wouldn't have gone into it in the first place!

I am a newly winged naval jet aviator in Meridian, MS, moving to lemoore, ca to fly the F/A-18 Hornet. Throughout my flight training I and from what I can tell we all love the freedom of flying and the challenge certain things bring.
When you ask if I like to play with my joystick, ignoring the connotation, you hardly know think about the controls when moving the plane dynamically, but maybe you were looking for an answer more directed toward the connotation!.

you obviously dont know anything mr KNOWALL your probably too afraid to get in a plane so you whackoff instead. theres alot more to flying than playing with joysticks, whatever you mean by that. pilots love to fly. and pilots hate you.

I just got my private pilot's license.

If flying was inexpensive, easy to learn and completely safe, wouldn't EVERYONE do it?

Well, I'm among those who'll pay the price.
