Place the cage so the bird perches at about your chest level. Lower than that (especially if placed on the ground) and the bird will be anxious and feel vulnerable. Do not place it higher than your chest level as 'higher' means 'superior' to birds. In the wild, the more dominant birds perch on higher branches. Keep the bird in a sunny,(but NOT in sun) draft-free area. If the bird is more social, keep it in an area of human activity. If the bird is less social, it may be happier in a quieter area of the house.

To begin with, put it in a quiet room away from main activity for awhile (a week or so) until it can adjust to its new home. Once it is chirping and hopping around normally, It can go by a window during the summer as long as there is no draft and no direct sunlight. Keep it away from A/C vents too. In the winter, move it into a warmer room and away from the windows and heating vents. Keep out of reach of other pets, such as dogs, cats etc.
Do NOT under ANY circumstances put it anywhere in the kitchen. Ignore the person who said that was ok. Emissions from nonstick coatings on pans can be toxic to birds if the pan is cooked "dry". Also if your bird gets out of its cage and lands in a hot pan, bye bye birdie. Kitchens and birds do not mix.
Good luck.

1. NEVER by a window, especially an open one.
2. About eye-level with you for easy feeding and watching; even if you're sitting at the table.
3. Never by an A/C vent.
4. Never on a low table where infants could pull it off.
5. Not by the stove.
6. Above a refridgerator is okay.
7. Always cover the cage for the night so the bird can sleep. There are no night-lights in trees...
Hope this helps. Good luck!

Don't put the cage in front of an open window or under an air vent. Drafts can be deadly. The kitchen isn't a good place...fumes from nonstick cookware will kill. The fluctuation in temperature isn't good, either. My cages are against the wall on a table in a bedroom.

Up high if you have other pets, you don't want them to scare it and kill it. Put it near a window in the summer where there is a good view but keep a close eye on it. Move it away from a window when the first snow falls.
