I want to have a tattoo since I was like16 yo. Now I'm 32 now and still don't have one. The thing is even thou I reeeeeeeeally want one I just can't seem to know what type of tattoo I want neither where I would like to have it on my body. All of you tattooed people out there, how did you come up with deciding what tatoo you had done and where you had it done on your body? Is there a process to go throu to make the decision? And how was the actual tattooing experience? Does it hurt more depending on the part of the body?

Thoughs I had as for where I might like it is on the calf, lower back, bicep, homoplate, or base of neck. As for pattern, no clue!!!

I have both ears pierced and the eyebrow, I know it only last seconds but how does it compare? (BTW would love to have my chin pierced too so any insight on that is welcome :)

I just wish I can finally get one before my 33rd birthday in July.

Thanks a bunch!

The pain factor depends on the person themselves; also the area in which you're getting done: The most painful places to get done are areas where there is little to no muscle (top of the foot, wrist.) I've heard the stomach is one of the more painful areas, but I suppose that depends on your physique. I have one doing down my rib cage, and it hurt more than the one in the center of my back. Lower back tattoos are played out, and everyone has one. I would say the safest area is the base of the neck or the calf. And as for the pattern: if you don't know what you want, don't get anything. People do judge others by the tattoos they have, so make sure whatever you get is an accurate example of who you are. If you're proud of your nationality, have a favorite quote, or something that will never change (children for ex.) something related to those usually make a pretty good tattoo. Getting a tattoo that only looks good and doesn't really mean much to you is not the best idea. There's no rush, and no point in pressuring yourself into getting something that you might not like by August. (Also never, EVER get a spouse's initials or name. It's a sure-fire curse for ending the relationship. No, seriously.) Good Luck!

Have you ever had a small dog with really sharp nails scratch on your legs? That's what it feels like. A little burn but nothing you can't handle, I'm sure. If you don't know what kind of tattoo to get maybe you should wait for a little while to decide. There are a bunch of really nice websites that you can go to to find something. I got a tattoo for my dad who recently passed away. I wanted a tattoo but wasn't sure, just like you, but, I sporadically went to the tattoo shop and got something that I thought that my dad would like. DO NOT get a name on your skin unless it's your kids! That's a note from the karma fairy! Think hard and don't stress over the pain. Once you are getting the tattoo, the pain doesn't hurt as much as a memory might. Just remember, this is forever :).

Tattoo ideas can be hard to come by. The main thing I can suggest to you is to pick something that is important to you. Also think about whether or not you will have to cover it up for work and if you will want it on your body for the rest of your life. My first tattoo was my astrological sign on the back of my neck. I would recommend getting a tattoo in that spot because it really wasn't painful for me. I do have long hair though, so it is easily covered when it needs to be. It will hurt more depending on the spot. I believe the calf and the lower back are the most painful places that people commonly get tattoos. Just remember...do NOT get names of people who will not be a constant in your life. Your kids will always be your kids and your lovers/spouses may not always be. Good luck!

well i have 2 tattoos the first i got when i was 16 and i didnt know what i wanted so i did a heart with tribal around it, but my second one means the world to me, i have it done on the base of my neck and its my grandfathers name its says
R.H.M and it has the day he was born above it and the day he passed away below it, neither one of my tattoos hurt me, i didnt even know he had done my 2nd untill i looked at it in a mirror, not every where u get one will hurt both of mine are on my back side and since my first was a jail house (no i have not been to jail) it really didnt hurt either, but i would go with something orginal, if u find something at a shop u really like, then modify it some do something different with it, if its an idea run with it, just do it, if u expect alot of pain u will find thats its not as bad, as u thought, just do it, but i would suggest sticking with something small, and dont have a great deal of detail in it for the first time, my husband said the tattoos he has on his wrist and his ankles were the worst pain he has ever felt, he wouldnt recommend getting one there, and he has a very high pain tolorence,

Doesn't hurt that bad. It feels like someone writing really hard on you with a feather pen. Not bad. As for what, I don't like getting anything you find in the shop. All that is, is a tracing that anyone else can get, not original. My first tattoo was from the shop, and I saw my same tattoo on some guy and i about vomited. Made me feel like I wasted the money. My second was my family crest, and my last one was a design that my best friend made.

Go original for design. Go visible with the placement. No use having one if nobody will EVER see it.

I researched this for you and found the perfect site listed below. As far as what you might like-I think your first tat should be personal to YOU. Mine was my baby's name, since he was my 1st born and I lost him when he was a day old! I was deployed to Korea for a year, so I had my son's name put over my heart in Korean letters. The pain was an annoying 'itch' that I knew I couldn't scratch, but that was about it. And it didn't take long to heal. The artist made suggestions for different places, but it also depends on how big your tat will be. Good luck. I hope this site helps you out. It will definitely answer a lot of your Q's!

What you get depends on who you are and what you want forever. I have a large flower piece on my left arm. It is very colorful and I chose the area bacause I wanted to be able to see it. Also the outer arm is less painful. The outline is less painful, th coloring in is more painful. It is more irritating than painful. It is sore for days afterward. It has been totally worth it. I love my tattoo. I had my tragus pierced and that was worse than the tattoo. Tattoos are sexy just dont pick something generic, go for original.

Tattoos are personnel. I have 6. Each has some sort of special meaning to me. A 4 leaf clover because I am Irish. The state of TX cuz I am from Texas. Teddy bear and balloons for my babies. You need to figure out what you want and if you can live with it. And as for pain well once the endorphins kick in WOW.

Most people who get tattoos have a meaning or a story behind the tattoo(s) they have, like me for example I have a butterfly tattoo on my right shoulder blade, for me it signifies that i want to fly free but somehow my wings break, they are to feable. my next tatt will be scales which signifies my zodiac sign (libra) thats going on my ankle. I cried when i got my first tatt only because it was sore but some people suck it up. Keep in mind, the closer to the bone the more sore it will be. always make sure the tattoo parlor and equipment is sanitized, pretty much like going to get peirced...

put deep thought into what you may want to get, I could be a highlight in your life or, a dream, a goal, ect. there are many many reasons behind getting a tattoo.

My friend said I was scared of getting a tattoo.I told him I wasn't scared. Then that night he took me to a tattoo place in Virginia, and looked at what they had on the wall.Found one tattoo that I wanted and I asked the guy,how much is this, how long would it take and does it hurt that much.He told me sixty dollars for that tattoo,45 minutes to an hour and he told me have you been stung by a bee before.I said yes I have been stung by a bee before and he told me that's what it feels like.I got my first tattoo and it is addictive.I also found my second tattoo on a tapestry and went to the same guy that did my first tattoo.you can bring something that you found in a book, magizine or something you drew.Find something that you like or want, but don't ever, ever, ever put someone name on your body unless you are going to be with them for the rest of your life.you can always go to a tattoo place and get it covered up with something else.
