SURE, Ariadne.
I am currently reading "The God delusion" by Richard Dawkins (after having read "The blind watchmaker" by the same author). Up to chapter 3 -about pretense "evidence" that God exists, given by theologists etc.- Dawkins explains
- how the Bible has falsified the facts
- how the scriptures have been biased, in the Coran, to push young people to suicidal bombings
- a funny analogy (if some guru pretends that a smallish teapot revolving between Earth and Mars -too small to be observed by any instrument even the more sophisticated- CAN ONE BELIEVE IT ?) illustrates what Dawkins thinks about Faith
- how people who declare to be "atheists" have much more difficulties than others to find a job, in the USA
- etc.
Yes of course, the world would be better. There would be no civil war in Irak for a start. The huge health of the Christian Church could be distributed to the poorests. Etc.
P.S. I am not -yet - an atheist but I take positions in favor of all the people who try to have a non-biased view over life, i.e. this excludes racists, ultra-nationalists, religious fanatics, those who want to force us to believe in myths, legends, plus all kinds of intolerance, hypocrisy, chauvinism etc.
Instead, I invest myself in Wisdom, Force and Beauty.

so you think that "religion" is the cause for the perversion and evil of the world? I guess that you would say then lets abolish all laws too? most religions are at least at face value good...most of them claim to be loving and they set some standards of moral living...the problem is not with the religion but rather the HEARTS of man!!! we are at best filthy rags in the sight of God going by our so called "righteousness" we are full of all kinds of immoral thoughts and hatred because of the sin in the world. Even the most devote of any religion has a hard time follow said religion... So wouldn't the world be better without people? ...sounds moronic doesn't it?....lets abolish hatred , jealousy, envy, murder, selfishness...in otherwords eliminate sin and you have your perfect world. The truth of the matter is that if not for the religions of man this place would be UNBEARABLE

In biblical cases, there exchange into no faith at that element. men are separated between believers in God and non believers(Gentiles), yet we study comments of homicide, betrayal and wars. Now, we've a superb style of non secular sects, yet we nevertheless see homicide, betrayals, wars and each sort of evil. a number of those chaos can in no way be traced on faith. so a techniques as i'm worried as a member of a faith, my reason in believing is to realize eternal existence and this could in no way be attained by employing those evils. possibly my techniques are shared by employing all persons beleiving in God. Why then those issues nevertheless take place? this is because of the fact each and every of the Godliness that we've whilst we we are created(Gen a million:27; 5:a million) has already been replaced with evil issues. the international look turning out to be hell standard, and it turns into extra pressing for us, believers, to paintings confusing and pray much harder to tutor the tide in direction of heavenly issues and enable our GOD be re-presented to truthfully truthfully everyone in this planet.

Why would you want to take away the very essence of someones faith? It is faith in ones creator that brings them peace. We may not believe in the same things, or have the same values, but indeed we are all unique people on this earth and should at least have the chance to freely believe in whom ever or what ever we want, as long as our beliefs do not HARM anyone else.

No. Abolishing religion will not destroy extremism or corruption through power. What you really want to abolish are institutions, but then you lose the benefits that institutions provide us with.

You are certainly free to feel anyway you want, as for me I think I will stick to my faith in Jesus as being my personal Savior, I think if one will for example, look at the human body, as intricate as it is, but at the same time as fallible as it is. One has to acknowledge that there is a Superior Being. I for one as do many others, believe that Superior one to be God, who sent His Son Jesus to wash away all the sins of the world.
If it turns out I'm right, in the end there will be nothing but celebration for me. If it turns out you're right, that means nothing. Which way would you care to look at things ?

Better without Savior? Christians believe in free will. Non-believers are so willing to take this hope away from us. Heaven is the perfect place we all long for.

Abolishing? No. Nothing makes something more popular than banning it. We just need to educate people so they aren't so reliant on it.
