Things to check:
Tongue Weight - The point made about the tounge weight is right on - Make sure you are not overloading the rear end.

GVWR - Check the door post and verify the GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) and make sure your combination (truck, trailer and load) are legal.

Break Controller - Make sure you have a good variable application break controller. Also verify that this works before you drive off and check it before starting down a grade.

Hitch/Ball - Verify that your receiver, ball and hitch are all up to the weight rating of the trailer.

Transmission - Check your transmission out and be sure it is in good working order and is properly lubricated. You should be using your transmission for most of your speed control; not your breaks.

Yes, your jeep if properly equipped with a class IV trailer hitch, trailer brake controller, and light wiring will properly tow your your boat as the Jeep Grand Cherokee with the V8 is rated to tow up to 6,500LBS.

It should be able to pull it. Just check the weight capacity of the towing package you have on your vehicle. Also, if you have overdrive, turn it off. You will wear out your transmission if you pull a heavy load with overdrive turned on. I have a 1998 Dodge Durango and it pulls my husband's 21ft bass boat with no problem.
