I personally DON'T believe in "god". Jesus as a historical figure however is fascinating to me. Disregard all the "miracles" in the bible, and all the resurrection stuff, and look at what he is documented as saying. Even if he never said any of the things in the bible, they are still credited to him, and should be considered. He basically said "be nice to people", take care of kids, sick people, and the mentally ill or genetically diseased, don't be greedy: share what you have, and treat others how you would like to be treated. I think all those things are really positive. It is too bad that historically people had to get the whole "god thing" involved with his teachings. I appreciate what Jesus said just like I appreciate what Dr. Phil says sometimes, but Dr. Phil doesn't have to be the son of god for me to take his advice. Just like Dr. Phil Jesus wasn't always right either, but they both have a good track record of giving good advice. Be a good person and it will all work itself out whether you believe in god or not.

Who says Jesus is the only one that knows the way?? The verse is "I am THE way, the truth and the Light, You can only get the the FAther through me"
Adam and Eve closed the gates to Heaven, JESUS with his death reopened them.. rebuilt the bridge between God and Man that had been severed by Adam and Eve.

Well, as an atheist I actually do want to give Jesus some slack on that statement or just about any of the statements attributed to him. In fact I suspect he meant and said something else then *50 years later* when somebody put pen to papyrus they misquoted, then 300 years later somebody mistranslated, then 1100 laters somebody else mistranslated. As you can imagine, Jesus could have said a great many things that are less exclusive than that statement sounds.
Edit: Hey look! A thumbs down! Apparently I am WRONG to be so tolerant of Jesus' ministrations. I will take this admonition into consideration.

Karen, Christ is not the only one who knows the way. Christ is the way. The reason Christ is the only way is he is the perfect Son of God. man is sinful and God is perfect it is the reason Christ came. The wages of sin is death and all have sinned and fallen short of God's glory. God had a plan of salvation to bring his creation to his righteousness. God could not call sinful things holy or overlook man's sin because God is a righteous God.Therefore man was without hope because fo sin. God came to the world in the form of a man to be tempted as a man and to overcome temptation and remain perfect and pay the penalty of death for those who accept the atonement. man's only way to be joined to God is to be made perfect through this atonement it is the reason Jesus said no one comes to the Father but through the Son.

Jesus was directly created by God. Col. 1:16,17 and was with him before the creation John 1:1-3,10..he is the one through who everything else came into existence and so he knows God personally. He was also the first one raised from the dead and given a Kingdom Isa. 9:6

I grew up an atheist, so I understand your viewpoint.
If you want to find the truth, try this.
Really mean it, and say :God, if you exist, please lead me to the truth."
Actually, Jesus is not the only one who knows the way.
Those who know Jesus know the way.
Jesus IS the way.
The reason that Jesus is the only way to god is that he is the only one to sacrifice his life as a punishment for what we did wrong.
But, no one comes to god but that God calls them.
All you can do is ask that if god exists, that he lead you to the truth.
But otherwise, if you are an unbeliever, it is not your "fault". You have just not been chosen. Sorry.
But if you seek the truth as I stated above, i am sure you will find it.

To understand what Jesus was, it is essential to understand what God is. The Bible clearly tells us the nature of God. On the positive side we use definitions like "God is a spirit..." (John 4:24), "God is light" (1 John 1:5), and "God is love" (1 John 4:8, 16). Over and over the biblical writers try to get us to understand that God is not physical or human. This is clear in statements like "God is not a man" Numbers 23:19, "God is the Word" (John 1:1), "God is unseen" (1 John 4:12). Matthew 16:17 makes it clear that God is not flesh and blood, and God's nature being outside physical limitations are clear in statements like "Do I not fill heaven and earth?" (Jeremiah 23:23-24), "Heaven of heavens cannot contain him" (2 Chronicles 2:6), and "For in Him we live and move and have our being" (Acts 17:28). In addition to these statements we have just listed, we have descriptions of God which indicate He is outside of time as well as the capacity to be unlimited in space. This is made clear in statements like "one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day" (2 Peter 3:8), "For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past..." (Psalm 90:4), "and thy years shall have no end." (Psalm 102:27), and "I am the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end..." (Revelation 22:13).

Because Jesus is the son of God. He is God made flesh. And because of the things that he said, he is either exactly who he said he was, or he was an absolute lunatic. There is no middle ground. Since he was of heaven, he would be the authority.

Jesus said we all know the way (verse 4)
John 14
4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.
5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Well you have spoken well to say there are many ways to the beach, nevertheless, you are confusing the language with the idea it is trying to depict. A better example would be to say, “The way to heaven, (If it was next to the beach they would be many ways to get there. Of course that would not guarantee that you got in if the entrance was gated.) is like the way to earth”. For it doesn't matter weather you live in Africa, China, Alaska or Argentina for the only way you got into your physical body and present state of existence was thru being born of a woman. Of course once born we can transverse the earth but that is not the same thing. So is the way to Heaven similar in that you must be born of the Sprite. (Saved-and enter into a new life-spiritually to be born into Heaven.) It all makes sense when you honestly look at the subject.
So then, am I just an intolerant bigot when I say you must be born of flesh in order to enter the kingdom of earth? So then, that which we see and know by our senses in this natural world bears wittiness to that which is Spiritual which we see not neither can we know it except we be informed of such (The Bible-We have been informed.) by one that can in fact see that which is of spirit as we see that which is physical. But this takes faith, faith in Him that claims to know and also to be able and willing to save us from our destruction, and you will decide to trust him and live or die with the consequences of that choice or believe not and live or die with the consequences of that choice. So it stands to reason that we must chose between Blind faith on one hand and blind unbelief on the other.
For there is no other option open to us and one can not reason out of ignorance anymore than a Blind man can see without eyes.
And we have not eyes in Heavan. Yet we do in the earth and the creation bears wittness of the glory of God and thought you denie Him you are condemed in that you know the truth and are willingly ignorant of that truth. Unless you repent and call upon Him that made you you will die in your sins. for He said: "I am the way the truth and the light and no man comes to the Father but by me" (Jesus Christ).
