& you need to go "#2" do you do a "polite flush" to mask the sounds? I have been told only women do this? Is that true? Just curious!

I believe proper etiquette for number 2 in the restroom is as follows:

1. Enter restroom and proceed to the cleanest stall available.

2. lay down splash guard (a few sheets of t.p. in the water to prevent the awful "plop" and "splash" that I'm sure we're all aware of...)

3. wipe seat and lay down a seat cover and/or a layer of t.p.

3.a. for us males, lay another sheet of t.p. over the front portion of the toilet where willy johns has to sit, in case there is any incidental contact between willy johnson and the porcelain.

4. take care of business as quickly and efficiently as possible.

5. courtesy flush as needed, and absolutely after number 2, and pre-wipe.

6. Wipe.

7. Flush as needed to make sure toilet is clear, and all t.p. guards are flushed as well.

8. Zip up, leave stall, wash hands thoroughly.

That's the process. It may sound complicated, but once learned it becomes second nature.

No, I wouldn't flush when still seated. Many toilets splatter a bit, very uncomfortable! However I will often flush right away, then wipe and flush again. This gives it less time to smell up the place, especially on those European toilets that have a 'tray' so the poo is laying there in the open until flushed.

I am from Europe and I only came across automatic flushing toilets when I first came to the states. I prefer it when there are lots of toilets free and much activity outside like noisy hand dryers but it is harder for me if there is people waiting outside. Also, in Europe the door usually goes right down to the ground so there is more privacy.

I dont do number twos in public, i dont feel comfortable. I will however cough if i have to pee because it is endlessly awkward to be sitting there and listen to others pee. Also, if im just waiting for a friend, i play with the fan to mask their sounds. It just makes things alittle more comfortable. me and my bfff have a joke that when we go to a public restroom and we are alone, we have to find ways to mask eachouthers sounds. Loads of fun!

only right after the turd to get rid of the smell right away...never thought of flushing to get rid of sounds...however, most of our public toilets are automatic and flush constantly when someone is in front of the little light. It's annoying.

I've never heard of that. Everybody poops. They know what they're getting into when they go to a public restroom. Just do it. I'm more concerned when people don't wash their hands. Oh, this is a guy's perspective.

Forget the sounds, the sounds are funny. The smell is a different story.

I flush even when I'm by myself to get rid of 'things' as quickly as possible so that it doesn't smell as bad.

What's a polite flush, is that when you leave it for the next person?

Listen its a restroom, its the only place you can be a bit fowl, and relax, but if it bugs you to know that people know what your doing, then do flush, or wait until people leave then relax

I do it. I am a woman though. I never have asked any men if they do this. I don't remember if my ex ever did a polite flush at home or not, but then he thought his poop didn't stink.
