Like most preachers/priest/ et al…they where "praying" that you wouldn't actually question them. For who are you to question the anointed.

Tithing is an Old Testament concept. The tithe was a requirement of the law in which all Israelites were give 10% of everything they earned and grew to the Tabernacle / Temple (Leviticus 27:30; Numbers 18:26; Deuteronomy 14:24; 2 Chronicles 31:5). Some understand the Old Testament tithe as a method of taxation to provide for the needs of the priests and Levites of the sacrificial system. The New Testament nowhere commands, or even recommends that Christians submit to a legalistic tithe system. Paul states that believers should set aside a portion of their income in order to support the church (1 Corinthians 16:1-2).

That was an old testament law it doesn't stand true for the now unless God tells you personally to do it...We are supposed to give offerings and that my friend can fall in many categories..... not a bad thing to tithe but it is not a mandatory principal or law especially when it preached so widely within the 4 walls of the church buildings and the clergy! It's time to go outside of the box don't you think? After all we can help more causes by standing on the outside.....

I do not believe that a specific amount anywhere is mentioned in the bible. However, I could be wrong ~ I am among the people who feel that the Bible was not "faxed down from heaven" therefore it is to be interpreted how you personally feel and see fit.

It does say that one should support their church ("God loves a cheerful giver")- way back when - this could have meant with goats, chickens and rice!

You should give what you can to support your church and if you cannot give that much financially - look into how you can help in other ways...

Good Luck!

Leviticus 27:30, Dt. 12:17, mal 3:10. Titheing is something between you and God, it's supposed to be a blessing to give your money. God wants an offering not an obligation. God Bless you, I know he will lead you in the right way!

It's in the books of Leviticus and Malachi. I do know the reference in Malachi doesn't use the word tenth, but I do know the word "tithe" comes from a word meaning tenth. As for Leviticus, I know it's in that book, for the Levites that the book is named for are the tribe who was responsible for the upkeep of the church and the furthering of the ministry. Their living WAS the church, which was taken from the tenth or tithe that the people were required to bring them for food to eat and distribute among the poor among other charitable functions and ministries.

When Abraham returned with the people and the goods, the new king of Sodom came out to meet him. Melchizedek, king of Salem, also came out with bread and wine and pronounced a blessing upon Abraham. Genesis 14:20 says that Abraham "gave him tithes of all." Hebrews 7:4 confirms that it was a tenth of the spoils of the battle.

that was old law from the old testament. The new testament does not say how much but to give as you are prospered. Some people like to make 10% a reference because it is more concrete.

It does not. The Jewish scripture tells a story of a rich man 6000 years ago who gave 10% of his wealth to a holy man. The churches use that to scam their followers and take bread from the mouths of babes.
