When we kiss the hurt of a child we are doing that. Not normally on a huge level but our intent is to help that childs pain stop.

The word witch scares people. It's been known for ages that people would go to the local wisewoman or man for that fact and ask for healing. It could even be just roots and herbs but they went, which it was most of the time. They normally did this on the quiet for fear of others finding out they did ask for help from someone they were suppose to fear. They would go and ask for spells but they called it something different. My grandmother had people asking her for things. Changing luck, making someone leave them alone, etc... She never called them spells, she just did things.

We do all have the potential to use the intent, dear. The label is not bad and I am not all that sure that the decrying Christian masses have their source correct. The Bible was re-written so MANY times over the years, depending on who was in power (this is not blasphemy, it is history, folks and witches can truly be Christians, fyi). I do not believe that witchcraft is evil. Evil is pure and unadulterated evil. I have not met an evil witch. I have met practitioners of the black arts and I would NEVER use the term 'witch' in reference to any of them. Evil is what it is. Intent is much of our practice, dear. Keep learning. What separates a witch from a non-witch is often the veil of ignorance. My own mother (bless her) once slapped me when I was too young to understand why. She did so because I said (truthfully) "Mommy, but we come from witches. That's what grandma and great-grandma are." She was furious in a way I have never seen before or since. Thankfully, the fury has passed and she has learned that in a child's innocence comes a simple truth: witchcraft is not evil, it is a healing art. It is a loving art. It is, in my case, an inherited trait, just like my eyes or hair, and cannot be denied. Keep learning and keep asking.

The persecution of witches was an attempt by the early Christian church to eradicate womens' power base, therefore strengthening the church's stranglehold on society.

Wisdom not sourced from the church must have been satanic, therefore and elderly woman with 80 years' experience and wisdom was automatically assumed to be in league with the devil.

YAWN - The only downside to witchcraft is it keeps inciting the godbotherers to having a public tantrum ;)

i can fix a lawn mower and a toaster and at times my computer, and I can give my Hunny aspirin for his aching head.
This makes me:
a person with a few skills.

This Does Not make me:
a mechanic, electrician, a computer technician nor a doctor.

The difference is a dedication to a craft, time, energy, money and practice involved.
So I'd have to say no, we aren't all witches really.

And you should worry about offending non-witches. I don't have a problem with who I am but I get pretty annoyed when people assume I'm atheist because I don't follow my parents religion.

Absolutely, yes. We all do the same thing, it's only a matter of scale and the pretensions of grandeur we give the deities we invoke. Witches invoke small, usually localised or specialised deities to their aid, provide healing, and try to do no harm. They do not claim their gods are omnipotent or were there as creators of the universe. It's probably only when one extends this kind of power to one's deity that the trouble starts, because then all contrary opinons begin to become offensive to that faith. but the basic principles - prayer, healing, love, spirit - are the same in all faiths.

Of course, we all have skills to a certain level that are not quite explained by Science yet - nor main stream religion. Witches are born with and/or acquire knowledge. But a form of power comes from the goodness in you and love no matter what.

The word witch is a name given to someone who uses the art of will and emotions to effect change in the world around her/him and the world within.

What I think you were illustrating is HOW the average person can use magick. One can use magick to heal but one can also use magick for other purposes. A witch is one who is educated and fully understands The Craft.

not offended, I just totally disagree. Witches are not just healers.. there is a saying "a witch who cannot hex, cannot heal." There's much more to this saying than it appears on the surface, but other witches will understand what I mean.
It's just not the same thing as hugging your child or taking an aspirin.

Although everyone has the potential to be a witch, not everyone is, or can be, a witch,. We all have the potential to be a concert pianist, but most of us aren't.

I think what you are describing is not so much healing or witchcraft, but the intent used in witchcraft.....
Because without the right intent our magick would be very weak indeed!
