What is the best online way to meet new people...do people use fake (more appealing) pictures to draw more attention to themselves?

I have done the online dating thing and my advice to be careful. Yes, people use pictures that will show them in their best light. Sometimes, they are from 20 yrs or before they gained that extra 50 lbs. They will also lie about how many children they have, how many times they have been engaged/married, whether or not they have a job, what kind of job, etc. Also lots of married and otherwise "taken" men, and probably women, are on there just looking to get laid.

If you meet someone you're interested in, do a background check. It's a little pricey but worth it if you find out someone is married or seriously in debt.

I'm not saying that you can't find a nice person on the internet, just be very careful and move slowly.

Here's a story for you:

I had one friend that met guy, they "fell in love" immediately, he bought her a ring, moved into her home and in less than a yr, they broke up because he "couldn't be himself with her". Meanwhile, he spent all her savings and she had to sell the ring to survive. Now he is engaged to someone else.....less than 5 months later. It wasn't really love, he just needed a place to stay and someone to be his mommy.

I've used the online dating services just to see what they're like etc...and yes, fake pictures are used. I've had different people lie about their backgrounds/education/looks etc...I didn't have good luck with them. Now about this part, which I'm serious about, most of the time people are there have serious personality flaws, I've discovered this by being in chatrooms with close friends of mine anyway and meeting others along the way. If you can, it's best to meet people while you're out with friends etc....it takes half of the guesswork out; you know? =)

Don't meet people online. I know from the experiences of people around me that people put up pictures of them at their very best looking...that could mean it was taken 5 years ago, at a flattering angle when they're really not very attractive, etc. Also, people have the opportunity to lie or embellish much more than they would in person, because there is no eye contact or good ol' intuition. Find someone in real life. You'll have a better chance at finding someone worthwhile.

Either join dating websites or sites that you have interest in (Hobbies and such) and you can meet people that way.

Some people online are honest, some are not...it takes time to weed through all that and figure out if whomever you are chatting with, is someone you'd like to meet offline or not.

honestly, don't bother with online dating, if you're never going to meet the person, cos when a real opportunity comes along you're pretty likely to blow off your online date, and if not, you're stupid for letting a real experience pass you by. its a no-win situation. you'll think you're doing fine, but at the end of the day, you're just plugged into a wall.
