I like osters, but any good brand will do. The kind with removable/changeable blades are definately the best. Traditionally, OES were shaved with the same shears that the farmers used on the sheep but you shouldn't need anything that powerful unless you allow your dog's coat to get matted between groomings.

Regardless of what kind you get, don't expect your first clipping to be beautiful. Some people are really good with the clippers right off the bat, but most people take a few good clippings to learn how to do it so that the fur isn't choppy (and some never get it). And my advice is to go with the direction of the hair growth. If you go against the direction of hair growth the blades will cut the hair shorter than if you go with it.

just make sure they are "professional" clippers. Don't try to save money by buying cheaper ones. For a sheepdog it's usually better to get a set with changable blades (the blades come in numbered sizes to adjust lengths) rather than to try to use plastic or metal combs over the blades to control length. Again, that costs a bit more, but you'll appreciate the investment. It's actually a lot better to invest in some great brushes and put the time into maintaining the dog's coat. If you keep him brushed out well he'll only need to be professionally groomed once or twice a year.

Old english sheepdogs are hard to groom due to their coat. Any of the clippers you buy from wal-mart or target will not work on them. The blades are not good enough and they heat up to fast. Call a local groomer and have them recomand what to use. But before you start clipping your dog yourself know that it is easy to burn and nick your dogs skin if you do not completly know what you are doing.

I use Andis brand, but Oster is very good too. It pays to buy a good brand as it will last longer and do a better job, especially since you have a big dog. Try an on line dog supply company for better pricing.
