It would be for 5 days a week. I don't want to pay her for the week in case my husband has the day off. So I would instead base her pay daily or hourly. The hours are 2:00 to 6:00 pm. She would drive aproximately 10 miles to get to my house. This is for 2 mild girls 1 and 3 years old.

I normally pay my sitters around 6 an hour but they don't drive their own car. I am only making 12 an hour. Around here sitters don't get paid more than 10 unless a Nanny.

Depends on the area and what everyone else is paying around where you live. Where I live a full time sitter, 45-50 hours per wk only makes around $100 per week and they supply the food. So, yes, some areas-the average is around $2 per hour. However, I doubt if many people would drive and babysit for 4 hours and only make $8. Thats not worth the time. Its usually more per hour if its not full time
Do you normally pay $6 an hour for occasional babysitting or daily, while you work? If thats normal for your area I would just add maybe $5 per day for her driving to your house. That sounds very fair to me.

Ok yea your getting ripped off. For watching two children for 10 hours a day you should at the VERY least be making 5 dollars an hour for 50 dollars a day. The size of the town shouldn't matter too much. More so what the family can afford and what you think is fair. If they aren't paying you what you need, you should find someone else to watch. If they are adding more kids in the summer, you should add 3 dollars an hour extra for them (2 $ for one kid and an extra 1$ for the other one) In all honesty if you are watching 4 kids two who are under the age of 4 , one is not potty trained and one has behavior problems i think a fair rate would be 10 dollars an hour . For 2 kids 8 dollars an hour i believe is fair. And you should ask their parents to bring their own snacks and lunches absolutely. Or they can add 1dollar an hour on for the food to be provided. I have been a Nanny for 5 years, and i would never work for under 8 dollars an hour when i started. You didn't state your experience, but once you have a few years of experience you can ask for more money. Like now i wouldn't work for under 11.50 an hour(2 kids), they provide the food money for going out and any other expenses. When i would "babysit" my first year out of high school i got taken advantage of, because i would watch 2 kids for 4 hours a day 5 days a week and only make 50 dollars a WEEK. That was retarded of me. And 25 dollars a day for 2 kids for 10 hours a day is not fair. I would ask them to pay you 8 dollars an hour, with them bringing snacks . If they want you to provide food ask for 9 dollars an hour. When the other 2 get added ask for 10 an hour..and if they still expect you to pay for food then charge them 12 dollars an hour, feeding 4 kids cost money!

I usually use this method for figuring out the babysitter's fee.
$5/hr for 1 st child, $2/ hour for each additional child.
Approx the amount of money they will spend on gas.
(my sister lives 2 hours away, so I start her off with a base of $25 just for gas.)
Figure 10 miles at $6 a day. Also with the gas figure, add anything she will have to drive to with the kids. Park, dance class...etc.
I wouldn't add preparing meals, because it doesn't sound like she will be there for anything more than snack time.
That would be how I would figure it.

Patricia is right, it also depends on where you live. I am in Pa. and from NJ, and that scale would be fine there.

My babysitter is 15, my son is 4...she doesnt watch him regularly, and not for more than 2 or 3 hours at a time, but i pay her 5 bucks an hour, and always round up (if she watches him for 2 hours 20 minutes, she gets paid for 3 hours). At 17, i might up it to 7 or 8 dollars an hour...perhaps get her a gas card at the beginning of every month (like a $50 one), which she can use for gas for the month, and then 7 dollars an hour. Sounds fair to me.

Well, if you are paying Hourly I would say at least $8.00 an hour. That's $160 a week...I pay $85 a week for ONE child who gets full time care...but full time care is generally cheaper than part time...because when it's full time you usually pay a discounted "weekly rate" but when it's hourly you are going to be paying a little more...also, for two kids...it's going to be a little more. AND...for someone to come to your home you are going to pay a little more. So...for me, I am paying $85 for one child, full time, and I have to drive him to the sitters house.... So, for 2 kids, hourly, and the sitter comes to you I would say $160 seems pretty fair.

At least $7/hour, unless you live in a high-cost-of-living area, then much more. Since you have three kids and she's driving 10 miles to get to your house, $7 is definitely the minimum per hour.

I think she should make at least minimum wage for one child. With two, I think $8.50 -$10.00/hr would be fair. This would still be less than you'd have to pay daycare and it would probably be better care. The kids get to stay in their own home and have basically one on one care from the girl. If you sent them to daycare there is 1 teacher to every 7 or 8 kids, more depending on the ages. The most important thing is to sit down with her and agree on a price, you don't want to pay more than she'll accept, but you also don't want to abuse her either. I hope this has helped.

I would pay her 15 an hour......she is older and more responsible. I know some teens who get 12 an hour. It also depends on where you live...I pay 15 to 20 and hour for a babysitter...yet my sister in Memphis pays just 8 an hour....I am in Northern CA. So it depends on where you live...it is the same with Daycares.

If you can afford $40, Im sure that would be a blessing for her.
If she also cleans up around the house a little bit, and does extra little things to make kids enjoy themselfs. you need to give her $50 a day.
