Because they worked hard for it. And they developed the most popular OS being used on roughly 90% of PCs around the world. They control the platform, and they make it readily accessible to programmers and end users. They do a good job at what they do, and it's no easy task; they deserve everything they've gotten.

Its all about marketing. Microsoft didn't invent dos, they just marketed it better. The same with GUIs. Linix has a far more user friendly and vesatile "window " interface, and is less prone to virus attacks. Microsoft just cornered the market and bought up what they couldn't push out.

Because when a God created the earth it was said man and woman will make all creation. And God isnt wrong. Also it came at a time when the computers were just starting and microsoft, being one of the first pioneers established a lead. Just think of Bubba Gump's shrimping
