I just got done watching the episode of "whose wedding is it anyway" where the couple call off the wedding 4 days before.
I felt so bad for that poor wedding planner because you could just tell that he didnt like the bride first off, but had to work with her because he accepted the job and 2ndly because she was so tough to work with and he really bent over backwards for her and then she called off the wedding after all his hard work.
I have to ask the wedding planners on this board, does this happen alot and do you generally like all your brides?
I would love to hear stories if you have any!

TJ, wasnt she just so incredibly mean to her fiance? He just seemed so beaten down by her, my heart just went out to him when he was trying on the Tux and she called him a whale and embarrassed him in that shop. She was no skinny minnie.

Its episode #209 Sarah and Tim. This episode to top it off is their actual 2nd try down the aisle, they already postponed once before this episode.

I have planned numerous weddings and I HATED only 1 bride. She was crazy, she called me every day, several times a day which was fine...but I gave her my schedule specifically so that she wouldn't call while I was in meetings with other people...and she ALWAYS called then! Then, she bought a gown and I called in favors to get it altered ASAP...and she decided she didn't like the gown AFTER it was altered and refused to pay for the alterations. Then, she bought another dress and let her dog walk all over it...it was a mess and she called me to find someone to clean and fix it (it was TORE UP!). I did my best but it couldn't be repaired so she bought dress #3...then her groom put his foot down and said no more dresses, so she dealt with that one. She also wanted to keep the centerpieces at her house...and her dog ate 1/2 of the decorations...again blamed anyone but herself and the dog. By the time the wedding came around I felt such sympathy for the groom...and he was just so clueless. Its terrible when a wedding planner wants to tell the groom to run! Anyway, they went through with it, but DURING the wedding she started sobbing...like, unable to breathe because she was crying so hard...they had to ask the priest to stop and she told her mother that she wasn't sure she wanted to get married...(good timing!) because she didn't think her groom would be good in bed...great reason to not get married too! THEN she got WASTED at the receptions and flirted with EVERYONE but her new husband. It was horrible.

I'm a wedding planner and I'm glad to say that I have not had any brides call off their weddings yet, but I do have a cancellation policy included in my contracts.
I do like the majority of my brides, there is only one bride that I can say I really had a problem with (but never let her know), she bossed her fiance around, the wedding party, family members and I think by the end of the wedding none of them wanted to have anything to do with her (including her fiance) and unfortunately they are having problems now.
Pretty much all of my other brides are still in contact with me and some are pretty good friends. I think it's because I'm not a pushing planner and I really try to get to know them and their families to make sure that their wedding is just the way they envisioned.
I hope that I never have to deal with a couple calling off their wedding, but if things aren't working out I guess it's best to call it off before rather than having to go through a bitter divorce later.

Oh my gosh...I watched that episode today too! She was a total banshee. I really hope her wedding planner got paid for all the work he did. He seemed like a sweetheart. I also wonder, that close to the wedding, the vendors must receive at least partial payment no? I mean, theoretically, flowers have already been purchased, hair dressers and make-up people have already blocked their schedules, food, favors, cake has already been ordered. Did they say if it was the bride or groom who called it off?

I don't watch the show but when I saw this posting I ALMOST HAD A HEART ATTACK!!
Funny, I think most people are insane these days, my florist, baker and cater have all told me how wonderful and easy I am to work with. We were talking about how people today are very selfish to begin with and these TV shows are making them more demented. The baker told me some girl came in 1 week before her wedding and wanted a cake big enough to feed 1,000 people (she was having 200) and didn't want to pay the extra money for it!! She just thought if she threw a big enough fit that they would just do it for her.
I think people are crazy and get a ring on their finger- you just fueling the fire.... I know one girl let her mother get a second mortgage on her house to pay for her wedding- can you image!? Something wrong with people out there today. This is why I could never work in retail or with the general public- I would be in Jail for killing someone.

Worst wedding ever: 4 kegs of beer for 100 guests. That should have been a heads up. Bride calledthe night before panicing and wanted food for 20 additional guests. Our staff had to drive into town because they forgot ice for the kegs of beer and used ours. Had to feed groom so he'd be sober enough to stand up at his wedding. Bride was an hour and a half late for wedding. Only thirty five guests showed up. Bride spent another hour in the bridal suite yelling after the wedding making her guests wait to eat. Both bride and groom too drunk to care for their child .Last thing I saw was friends of the couple trying to get keys away from them as they attempted to drive away with the four kegs of beer. Sadly I heard a year later the groom died one month after the wedding.

If I don't like a bride I usually won't work with her. I want to enjoy my job and if our personalities don't mesh, I'll recommend her to someone else. But people cancel engagements ALL the time. I recently had a bride who canceled her engagement, then bride and groom got back together, bride hired me again and then canceled AGAIN 5 weeks before the wedding. It can suck when you do all that work and don't get to see the finished product, but when you are in a business of emotions that can be a downfall.

I think that I would rather have them call it off than go through with it. With some of the reality shows a lot of this is staged.
It happens, not a lot. Generally I wouldn't take a client that I didn't like.
