With new advances in surgery a male vasectomy is usually done under local anesthetic. The procedure can also be reversed if the need should arise, and is often successful. But please be aware that such reversals are not always successful. In this light, it might be better to consider other contraception methods such as the pill, condoms, or caps. If you are unsure I would suggest you consider something temporary as it were. Congratulations on your pregnancy and your young son. Good luck for the future.

If there is any remote possibility you may want more, do not get sterilized. Do not get your tubes tied and he shouldn't get a vasectomy. They are very hard to reverse and even then sometimes the reversal don't work. Some doctors won't do reversals. They are very expensive and often insurance doesn't cover it. Perhaps you should talk to your OB about a IUD. It is a small T shaped device that is inserted into the uterus. There are two types. The Copper is good for 10 years, the mirea is good for 5 years. Other then checking it once a month, you can forget about it.

It is possible - though, I must point out that any operation shouldn't be undertaken lightly.

I'm sure you'll get lots of advice here, but talk to your doctor - they can settle any doubts on the safety and reversibility of such an operation

Best of luck

Why don't you just use condoms and birth control?? It's not that hard for you to do! Cause if you get your hubby 'fixed' then he may not even be able to have anymore children even if he does get 'un-fixed'!! That would be kinda like you getting your tubes tied after you had the baby then getting them un-tied when you want another child!! I would say just use condoms and birth control if I were you!!
