There are really three kinds of armies
1. The Palace Guard. These are mostly ceremonial troops who also bodyguard. The Vatican Guard is a top of the line example. Pick any small middle American state for the worst
2. Civil Control Units. They are used to keep the population under control. Egypt has one of the best. Pick any state in sub Sahara Africa for the worst
3 Combat Forces. The US at the top of the heap. The Russian Military at the bottom. They have yet to get over the change in government and do not have a professional NCO corps.

This is a very vague question, as some armies possess different strengths and weaknesses. For instance the US army is a formidable fighting force in that is logistically and technologically superior to all other state armed forces on the planet, yet its training and discipline standards are not as effective as that of the British, Indian, or Chinese armed forces (These three lack the strengths of the US).
We could even judge armies on the 'Victory' scale, who has won the most wars etc, but this would put a massive bias upon certain states, i.e those who have not been in a .'major' war (Chile, Fiji, or Vanuatu etc), or the French. The possibilities are endless!

a large type of folk confuse the ANA with the Afghan Police. As 'the single' stated - the army is experienced via Nato forces (predominately the united kingdom and US) and that they are able to under taking venture on their own (rather) effectively. Their no longer the terrific, yet they was lots worse. The police on the different hand are are sick-disciplined, poorly resourced, poorly experienced and extra corrupt than Berlusconi working a on line casino. The locals believe the army extra, yet will actively sidestep the police while they might. yet that's no distinctive to many different counties worldwide. .

Columbia. The corruption is so high that they sell their own boots and then complain they have nothing to put on their feet.
Where does FARC get their weapons? The local army depot.

Al Qaeda. They beat us by dressing like civilians, hiding behind women and children, and being loved by our own media. It's embarrasing isn't it?
